Let me start by saying that we needed to replace Kliff last year, and Wells was a great choice to replace him. I also think Yost is a good, proven OC that will do some good things for us.

But it surprises me how inflexible he is with the use of the TE. I too thought Kliff underutilized this position. But I’m surprised that in some situations he doesn’t take the TE out and go to four or five wide. I’d like to see a combo of Mannix/Rigdon/White running routes underneath to create mismatches.

Also, i noticed last night that when we use an unbalanced line, we’re effectively taking two skill players off the field. The right end is a tackle and the left end is a slot receiver (ineligible), along with the TE, who really isn’t much of a pass-catching threat to this point.

I trust that Yost has a master plan, and if it helps the run game at the expense of the passing game in the long run, then it may be worth it. It will be interesting to watch.
