Former Saginaw High and NBA player Darvin Ham has become a hot name as NBA teams prepare to fill their head coaching vacancies.

But Ham, an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks, is focused on the NBA playoffs, earning a bit of notoriety for his role as a peacemaker during Saturday’s on-court fight between Orlando’s James Ennis and Milwaukee’s Marvin Williams.

Ham, 47, tried to break up the fight but found himself on the court after getting hit inadvertently by Ennis. The Bucks won 121-107 Saturday and 121-106 Monday to take a 3-1 lead. Game 5 is Wednesday.

Williams and Ennis were both fined $15,000 by the NBA but were allowed to play in Monday’s game.

Ham, meanwhile, has been linked to head coaching openings in Chicago, New Orleans and Philadelphia. Other rumored coaching candidates include Ime Udoka, Kenny Atkinson, Wes Unseld Jr., Stephan Silas, Tyronn Lue and Jacque Vaughn.

Ham blossomed at Texas Tech, gaining notoriety in the 1996 NCAA Tournament when his dunk against North Carolina shattered a backboard. He was not drafted but played eight years in the NBA, finishing with the Detroit Pistons in 2005. He was a member of the Pistons’ 2004 NBA championship team.

He played in the NBA G League for Albuquerque and Austin before jumping into coaching. He has served as an assistant coach in the NBA since 2011, when he joined the Los Angeles Lakers staff. In 2013, Ham became an assistant in Atlanta for Mike Budenhozer until 2018 when he followed Budenhozer to Milwaukee.
