I have had the feeling that much of the Cowboys success with Dak at the helm has been they have kept the offense relatively simple and not asked hi to do too much. Maybe mores, told him not to do more than he was asked.
We saw similar success with Nic when he came in for Pat. Admittedly, the sample is much smaller than what we have with the Cowboys, but humor me for a moment.
I wonder if having Dak at the helm has helped Garrett and his OC to keep things simple and attack what is given rather than get over adventuresome. Also, not having a gunslinging QB looking past the short 6-8 yard gain may have provided more consistent play from the entire offensive side of the ball.
I'm just wondering if Nic might do the same thing for us if he ever is needed to step in. Did Nic being in actually help focus KK?
I'm also wondering if Romo has noticed how just making the simple play has kept the team rolling. Probably not...once a gunslinger, always a gunslinger. But the parallels of these two situations are interesting to consider.
