One grammatical error I hear frequently on television is the incorrect usage of "I" and "me" when people are referring to themselves and a companion. I think a lot of folks believe that they are speaking properly because they put their companion first, but they automatically default to "I," which is not always correct! A simple test you can perform is taking your companion out of the sentence and seeing if the sentence makes sense. For example:
"Billy went with Joey and I to the store."
Kill Joey (evil laughter)...
"Billy went with I to the store."
That doesn't work, stupid! Billy went with Joey and ME to the store (before we killed Joey, that is).
"Billy and I want to kill Joey."
Is that correct? Let's check!
"I want to kill Joey."
I sure do!
"It isn't fair what the police are doing to Billy and I."
No, what isn't fair is that you have a high school diploma.
Anyway, that's all for today!
