I watched Tech dismantle OSU yesterday afternoon and remembered what a great recruiting class the Cowboys had last year. So, I went back and looked at the star ratings for the last 15 (2016-2019) OSU recruits and the last 19 (2017-2019) for the Raiders.
The Tech average per recruit is 2.89. This includes three zero star players. Two of the zero star players are still with the program, Moretti and Savrasov. OSU's average star per recruit is 3.4.
What's the difference? A coach that builds a program, recruits to it, and can coach those players to do what he wants them to do. This is not news to anyone, but he is very adept at choosing a four star player who will play better in his system than your four star player can excel in yours. That's pretty powerful.
For any subs that think this team is going to struggle to do well in the Big12, I think you got your answer yesterday. Someone mentioned on the broadcast (or on RRS) that OSU had the greatest number of minutes played that returned and we had the least.
Are we going to take some lumps this year, sure. On the road is going to be a battle every game and we will probably lose two or three by double digit margins. This team has arrived though, and we are now in the position where we will get the benefit of the doubt if we are on the bubble at tournament time. It's all about how good you are when the tournament starts, not where you are in November, December or even January.
I'll just say this in closing, "Beard doesn't take a dump, Son, without a plan".
