Chris Beard will be Texas Tech's new head basketball coach. The university is expected to officially announce the hire this afternoon, and could hold a press conference for Beard as early as tomorrow.
Beard has agreed to a five-year deal with a salary that will start at $1.4 million annually and top out at $1.8 million.
Mark Adams and Chris Ogden, who were slated to be on Beard's UNLV staff, are expected to be given an opportunity to join Beard at Texas Tech. Adams, of course, served as Texas Tech's Director of Basketball Operations for a time under Tubby Smith.
UNLV's President was apparently in the lobby of Beard's hotel at 5 a.m. this morning in Las Vegas trying to meet with him and convince him to stay.
