I had a chance to catch up with Mesquite (Texas) West Mesquite tight end and Tech commit Donte Coleman last night, and he's been busy working and going through summer workouts, like most high school football players at this time of the year. He's been keeping in touch with the Tech staff all summer, and sounds like things are going well at the moment.

"Things with Tech, we've been keeping in touch. It's cool," he said. "I've been talking to Coach Haverty, Coach Jones, and Coach Curtis. It's cool. It's always good when we get to talk. It's always a good time."

He keeps in contact with Trey Haverty more than anyone else on staff. The two have built a pretty close bond, and the Red Raider assistant can't wait to get Coleman on campus.

"He just always talks about how excited they are, how ready they are for me to get out there, and how they're ready for me to come out there and do my thing. I actually just talked to him a minute ago tonight."

A rumor surfacing this week was that the tight end could be heading to Austin this weekend for a visit at their "Under the Lights" event to check out Texas. He refuted that, however, but he did note the Longhorns are making a strong push for him right now.

But, he feels solid with the Red Raiders.

"No, I'm not going out there. Everybody had heard that," he laughed. "They're on a mission right now, really trying to get me right now and all that. But hey, I'm all the way red right now."

With summer now winding down, Coleman is trying to focus on preparing for his senior season, and he's hoping to have a big final campaign at West Mesquite.

"It's crazy, man. I'm pushing for 16 more games, but I'm only guaranteed 10, so it's a big deal. I'm really excited. I'm really excited going into the season, knowing what I'm fixing to do with this offense. My role, they've given me a bigger role this year. My OC is really looking at me to be that man, and I had a good spring and summer, so I'm ready to be that, and it should be a crazy year, so stay tuned. I'm excited. I'm just ready to go out here and do it one last time."
