With both high school and college football season in full swing, college coaches around the country are out on the recruiting trail again, trying to find players in both the 2015 and 2016 class. The Red Raiders found another junior prospect to offer on Thursday afternoon in Southlake (Texas) Carroll cornerback Obi Eboh.
Eboh was excited to pick up the offer from Tech, as he's built up quite the relationship with the staff already.
"It's pretty exciting. I kind of started my relationship with them in the spring. I went to their spring game and talked with Coach Morris and then Coach Haverty. So I kind of started my relationship with them in the spring, and over the summer I camped with them over the summer, and they really liked what they saw," he said. "Coach Haverty really liked my versatility, and I've just stayed in contact with them. Now this period has started where they can contact me first, and I've kept talking with Coach Haverty and Morris. They then evaluated my film as a staff yesterday or today and really liked what they saw."
As the DB said, he actually camped with the Red Raiders at Lancaster this summer. He enjoyed both getting to spend time with the coaches and learning how they go about the actual coaching.
"I went to the camp out at Lancaster," he said. "I got to see kind of what they do in the secondary, got a feel for all their schemes and stuff like that. It was cool to be able to be coached by them, cause that's obviously what I would get if I chose to go there. It was cool seeing what they were about."
One thing that the Tech staff loves about Eboh is his versatility in the secondary. The can see him playing either safety or corner, and he's already played both in his varsity career.
"My sophomore year at Carroll I played strong safety, and now I'm playing corner, so they said they liked that they can move me around. They also said they liked that I could complement Colin Wilder who's committed in my class to them."
The coach that the Southlake native has built up the biggest relationship with so far is OC Eric Morris. The two hit it off from the beginning, and things have grown from there.
"I think he's a really good coach. He's doing a good job with the offense at Texas Tech, and obviously I think he's been a really good recruiter with the 2015 class. They have Jarrett Stidham and a couple of other top guys, so he's doing a really good job with that. He's a great coach. He doesn't really just focus on football. He also focuses on life after football and things that would make me a better man and not just a better football player."
He also is hoping to take another trip in the near future, whether that be this fall for a game or early in the spring for a junior day.
"Oh yeah, definitely. I've been out there before, but I didn't get to see everything. I'm definitely thinking about taking another unofficial out there, and that could be for a game or junior day or something like that. I'm definitely going to try and get back up there, especially now that I have a better relationship with the coaches and stuff like that."
Tech wasn't the only school to offer Eboh on Thursday, however, as Ole Miss decided to pull the trigger as well. He now holds offers from Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, RIce, and Duke. He's also receiving quite a bit of interest from Washington Boston College, Purdue, Oklahoma, Baylor, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Northwestern.
Eboh was a prospect that I spent some time watching at the Lancaster camp back in June, and he absolutely stood out above his peers. He's a solid six-foot-one, 180 pound athlete, and he has the skill set to excel anywhere as a DB. We'll keep some tabs on this one for a while, as I think the Red Raiders are in a good spot with him.

Since the addition of Riverside (Calif.) Riverside C.C. offensive lineman Lio Lafaele this past March, things have been pretty quiet on the junior college recruiting front. That changed earlier this week when Brenham (Texas) Blinn C.C. 2015 wide receiver Darrion Landry started to hear from the Red Raiders.
"Coach (Eric) Morris contacted me on Twitter and asked me to give him a call," Landry said. "We had a good conversation and coach Morris asked me about my interest level in Texas Tech."
Things are dependent upon how he does academically, but it sounds like an offer might be in store.
"I would be very interested in Tech and coach told me that an offer could be waiting for me if I take care of my grades. He mentioned they have a receiver graduating and need someone to come play the outside receiver position."
Landry shared more from his conversation with coach Morris, including what the Tech offensive coordinator likes about his game.
"Coach Morris told me that he likes how I go up and get the ball against defenders," Landry said. "He watched my highlights and mentioned that I make plays with the ball in my hands, make people miss on bubble screens and get extra yardage. I have been playing in an up-tempo, no huddle offense since high school. I feel the offense they run at Tech would be a perfect fit, and it's the Big 12 conference. That is where I would like to play."
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound receiver graduated from Baytown (Texas) Lee high school before attending Blinn C.C. and will have three years to play two at the FBS level.
"Right now, the plan is to graduate in December, but I have to see how this semester goes and take a mini-mester before it's official," Landry said. "Either way, I will have two years of eligibility and a redshirt season left at the next level."
The junior college schedule usually doesn't lend well to scheduling official visits, but Landry does have one visit set during Blinn's bye week in late September.
"Our season finishes up a few weeks before the college football season, so I will probably wait to take most of my visits after our season ends," Landry said. "I have a visit setup to Kentucky on Sept. 27th during our bye week and that's all for now."
The three-star prospect currently holds offers from Illinois, Kentucky, UNT, South Alabama and UAB with interest from Arizona State, Boise State, Kansas, UTSA and West Virginia. Landry was recently listed as the number 66 overall prospect in the Rivals JUCO 100 released this week.
He finished with 3 receptions for 93 yards in Blinn's first game against Southeast Prep this past week. We will keep in touch with Landry moving forward and see where things go with the Tech coaches.

Cibolo (Texas) Steele high school has been good to the Texas Tech football program over the last few years. Mike Jinks, who coached the Cibolo Steele Knights to a state championship, joined Kingsbury's staff at Texas Tech as the running backs coach and quickly secured the commitment of 2014 running back signee Justin Stockton - one of his former players at Steele.
This past week, Cibolo (Texas) Steele 2016 all-purpose back Bryson Denley received an offer from Texas Tech.
"I spoke with coach (Mike) Jinks last week after school," Denley said. "He told me that I would always have a place at Texas Tech, and then offered me a scholarship. I told him 'Guns Up' and he said 'Let's Ride'. He also told me that Texas Tech is a great place and that he wants to stay in touch with me more often moving forward."
Denley was the backup running back to Justin Stockton this past season and talked about his relationship with the current Tech running back.
"Stockton, he's like my big brother," Denley said. "He always tells me they treat him very well at Tech and that the coaches are all really respectful."
He's not the only player with ties to the Red Raiders, either.
"I also have a teammate, Mark Jackson, who holds an offer from Texas Tech. He stopped by the Tech satellite camp earlier this summer and told me that the Tech coaches were a lot of fun to be around."
Baylor was the first program to offer Denley and Texas Tech makes offer number 2 for the standout back, but he is also starting to receive interest from several top programs from around the country.
"Baylor offered me a while back and I talk to them a lot," Denley said. "I have received interest from coaches at Oregon, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Florida State, UCLA, Oklahoma State, TCU and USC."
"I didn't really do any camps or visit any programs this summer," Denley said. "I plan on attending the Baylor and Texas Tech game in Arlington later this year. I'm also planning on taking an unofficial visit to Florida State sometime next summer."
While backing up Stockton this past season, Denley finished the 2013 season with 89 carries for 762 yards and 12 touchdowns. Denley started the season with 13 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown as the Knights defeated Madison in the first game of the season.
The 5-foot-9, 170-pound back is currently a three-star prospect, listed as the number 9 overall all-purpose back in the country and the number. 53 overall player in the Rivals Texas Top75 for the 2016 class.

As of Sept. 1, college coaches are now allowed to make contact with 2016 prospects by using social media, letting prospects contact them over the phone and of course sending absurd amounts of letters in the mail.
One 2016 prospect that heard from the Tech coaches this week was Houston (Texas) Lamar offensive tackle Dixie Wooten.
"I talked with the offensive line coach (Lee) Hays," Wooten said. "He watched my highlights from our first game against Brenham this past week. Coach Hays really liked my footwork, technique, size and mentioned that he was impressed with my game overall."
Wooten has received interest from several programs, including Baylor, LSU, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Texas, Oregon, TCU and Arkansas.
"I went to camps at LSU, Baylor and Texas A&M this summer," Wooten said. "I did very well at each camp and had the offensive line coach following me around. At LSU and Baylor, they put me up against upper classmen because I was winning each one on one against the other kids in my age group."
A few schools have definitely been on his trail the hardest so far, though.
"I would say that Texas, Mississippi State and TCU are showing the most interest so far. I plan on taking an unofficial visit to Mississippi State in October for their game against Auburn, but don't have any other visit plans at the moment."
The 6-foot-5, 322-pound lineman prospect shared his thoughts on the interest from Texas Tech.
"I don't know a lot about the program, but from what I have seen on TV, it seems like a very good atmosphere," Wooten said. "Coach Hays told me that I could call him to talk and ask any questions that I have whenever."
We will keep in touch with Wooten to see where things go with Tech, but he should begin collecting offers from programs soon enough.

Argyle (Texas) 2016 tight end and Clemson commit J.C. Chalk received an offer from the Tech coaches this week.
"I spoke with coach (Eric) Morris last night and he offered me a scholarship to Texas Tech," Chalk said. "I had been receiving interest from Tech since my freshman season. Sonny Cumbie used to be the area recruiter for Tech and recruited me before leaving for TCU, then coach Morris picked things up from there."
Chalk went on to share more about his conversation with the Tech offensive coordinator.
"Coach Morris was telling me that Tech throws the ball more than any other school in the country, and we talked about how much they used their tight end (Jace Amaro) last year," Chalk said. "He mentioned what they do on offense fits my game, I'm more of a split end and not much of a blocking tight end.
Morris likes the explosiveness in Chalk's game, especially in his route running.
"I usually line up in the slot or on the edges, and catch a lot of passes in our offense here at Argyle. Coach Morris said he really liked the way I run routes and how fast I get in and out of my breaks. He likes the way I move and catch the ball in space."
Morris also spoke with the standout tight end about how the Red Raiders practice and prepare.
"He was also telling me about how fast they practice and play in games," Chalk said. "They run a lot of plays on offense, and coach Morris talked about how he still gets out there and runs routes with the team during practices. I thought that was pretty funny.
The 6-foot-3, 222-pound prospect now holds five offers and has continued to receive interest from new programs despite his early commitment to Clemson this past June.
"My commitment to Clemson is very solid," Chalk said. "I have a great relationship with the coaching staff at Clemson and it would take a lot to change my mind. I like to build a relationship with coaches who offer me and learn more about the program, overall opportunity. You never know what can happen with coaching changes or other things that are out of your control, and I just want to know what my options are.
For now, the Red Raiders just want to get in the conversation and Chalk totally understands that.
"Coach Morris understands that and told me the coaching staff wanted to throw Tech's name into the hat. He wants me to connect with him once a week or so, just whenever possible. I'm also supposed to connect with coach (Kliff) Kingsbury later this week for a conversation."
Tech currently has a few players in the program from Argyle, including 2014 signee Ian Sadler.
"Me and Ian are pretty close," Chalk said. "We have talked about Tech before, but now that they have offered me, I'm sure we will probably talk soon about more specifics."
It also sounds like a visit to Lubbock might be in store this fall.
"I definitely plan on taking an unofficial visit out to Tech this season for a game."
We will keep in touch with Chalk to see when he decides to unofficially visit the South Plains.
One other interesting note on Chalk, his grandfather is former Texas A&M coach, Gene Stallings. A&M has been showing interest, and although Chalk's commitment to Clemson is strong, it will be worth watching to see what happens if the Aggies end up offering.

Earlier this week, Texas Tech quarterback commit Jarrett Stidham took to Twitter and urged Tech fans to follow Clear Lake (Texas) tight end Jordan Davis. Davis, a longtime Texas A&M commit, received an offer from the Tech coaches in late March and things have stayed mostly quiet with the four-star tight end on the recruiting front since.
I caught up with Davis this week to talk recruiting and ask about the tweet from Stidham.
"Jarrett and I are pretty good friends," Davis said. "We met at The Opening and have stayed in touch. He has talked with me about Texas Tech a little, but not too much. I still keep in touch with coach (Eric) Morris from time to time and the Tech coaches have continued to show interest, send mail."
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end committed to the Aggies in June of 2013 and remains solid in his commitment with A&M, but does plan on taking some official visits this fall.
"I know that I will be visiting A&M for certain," Davis said. "I might take an official visit to Texas Tech and a few other programs, but I'm not sure exactly when right now and don't have anything setup."
Davis is ranked as the number 3 overall tight end prospect in the nation, the number 142 overall prospect in the latest Rivals250 national rankings and the number 18 overall prospect in the state of Texas Top 100.
This may end up being nothing, but it was certainly worth sharing and we will keep up with Davis to see if he does end up setting an official visit to the South Plains.
