Destrehan (Louisiana) safety Brandon Scott is one of several safety prospects the Red Raiders are eyeing in the current class, and he recently setup his official visit to the South Plains. The Louisiana native shared more about where his recruitment currently stands.
"I will be taking my official visit to Texas Tech in January," Scott said. "The recruiting stuff has not gone away, but I decided to focus most of my time and attention on my season."
One thing that has remained a constant throughout the recruiting process is Scott's interest in the Red Raiders and his relationship with the Texas Tech coaches.
"Texas Tech has always been a program that has stood out to me," Scott said. "I have a great relationship with Coach Curtis and have been talking with Coach Haverty a lot as well."
"We try to connect once a day, but usually every other day at least. Coach Curtis gives me great advice for on and off the field, I really like connecting with him. They might be coming down again here in a few weeks to watch one of our playoff games."
Scott went on to share more about where the Texas Tech coaches see him fitting into the Red Raider defense.
"They want me to come in and become an impact freshman for the program," Scott said. "I play mostly safety in high school, but coach Curtis and coach Haverty mentioned that they would be able to use me at corner, free safety and even some nickel back packages.
"I like that because I just want to get on the field and help the team however possible. That's my approach, that and getting to hit people on the field is what makes me happy."
The six-foot, 183-pound prospect does have other schools vying for his attention and plans to use the month of January to take his officials.
"The only official I know of right now is Texas Tech," Scott said. "I took an unofficial to Georgia Tech before the season, but will probably setup a few other visits in the month of January and get them all out of the way."
"It's mostly the same schools who have been recruiting me - Arkansas, Minnesota, Utah, Arizona State, Georgia Tech and of course Texas Tech. The coaches from Cal and Miami recently contacted me with interest too. I'm going to remain open to any schools who show interest or offer, but those are the main programs in the mix right now."
The three-star safety prospect holds nearly 20 FBS offers and is rated the number 42 overall player in the Rivals Louisiana Preseason Top50.
He currently has five interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, nine tackles for loss, five pass break-ups, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three field goal blocks this season.
We will reconnect with Scott after his season and speak with him before the official visit to Lubbock.

Sachse (Texas) 2016 wide receiver Devin Duvernay was in town for his second unofficial visit to the South Plains this past weekend for the Texas game. The junior prospect enjoyed his time in Lubbock, and he had a good time at the game despite the poor season Tech's going through right now.
"The game was fun," Duvernay said. "Their season isn't going very well right now, but the coaches have a plan for me and have always been consistent when recruiting me with the same message."
The Tech staff already has a very clear idea of how they want to utilize Duvernay, too.
"They want me to come in and play the same role Jakeem Grant plays in the Tech offense. He will be graduating next year, the same year that I will be signing with a college."
Duvernay enjoyed taking in his first Tech game at Jones AT&T Stadium and shared his thoughts on the experience.
"The atmosphere in the stadium was great," the WR said. "The stadium was packed and I really enjoyed the game day experience. It was a lot different than the spring game, but both were a lot of fun."
He also had a chance to speak with the coaches after the game ended on Saturday night.
"We got to meet up with the coaches after the game too," Duvernay said. "I usually keep in touch with Coach Haverty and Coach Curtis on a week to week basis, but had a chance to meet with Coach Morris and Coach Kingsbury this weekend."
"They were happy we made the trip out to Lubbock again and want me to bring my mother up for another trip the next time around. The coaches want her to see everything at Texas Tech as well."
The four-star receiver is ranked as the number 151 prospect in the current 2016 Rivals250 rankings, the number 27 overall receiver prospect in the nation for 2016 and the number 16 prospect in the Rivals.com Texas Initial Top 75 for the 2016 class.
He currently has 43 receptions for 774 yards and eight touchdowns through six games this season.

Sachse (Texas) 2016 athlete Donovan Duvernay, twin brother of Devin, also made an unofficial visit to the South Plains this past weekend.
"I started hearing from the Tech coaches this past spring," Duvernay said. "I usually speak with Coach Haverty and he has been my main recruiter from Texas Tech.
"They are recruiting me as an athlete right now, but I'm not really sure where the coaches see me playing at the next level. I play a little bit of everything for my high school team. I play receiver on offense, corner and linebacker on defense and return kicks on special teams."
Donovan was not able to attend the spring game earlier this year with his brother, so this was his first visit to the South Plains.
"This was my first time down there," Duvernay said. "I didn't really know what to expect, but it was very nice and I was surprised by everything. It was a good atmosphere, the fans were live and it was a good game."
"We met with all of the Tech coaches before the game, but didn't really get to do too much before the game. We just talked with the coaches for a little bit and went down to the field before the game."
Duvernay has met the staff before, however, as he attended the Lancaster camp early on in the summer.
"I knew all of the coaches from the satellite camp in Dallas earlier this summer. We were able to meet up with Coach Haverty after the game and caught up a little more."
Duvernay recently received his first offer from Boise State and has received interest from Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma, Baylor, SMU, Texas and Wisconsin.
