The Red Raider Confidential is sponsored by Cardinal's Sports Center. If you
need Texas Tech gear or Under Armour apparel, the best place to go in our
opinion is Cardinal's -- they have a brand new location in Lubbock (Slide and S.
Loop 289), a
store in Plano and a fantastic selection on
their website.

If you're in the Lubbock area and looking to get into shape, but don't know
where to start, check out the website for
Cardinal's Fitness. You can sign
up for individual classes -- no contract or membership required -- that are good
for people at any fitness level. Level and I have been attending classes at
Cardinal's for two weeks now, and they've made a world of difference.

RHODES ENJOYED VISIT

Fort Worth (Texas) Southwest wide receiver Robbie Rhodes says he enjoyed his
junior day visit to Texas Tech this past weekend, and that the Red Raider's
offense and history of successful receivers are reason enough to keep him
interested.

"I like their pass offense," Rhodes said. "I like what they're capable of when
they throw the ball. They have a history of having a great offense and being
able to put their receivers into the NFL."

The 5-foot-10, 166-pound offensive prospect has been hearing from several Big 12
schools, specifically Art Briles from Baylor and Sonny Cumbie from Texas Tech,
but adds that he isn't in a hurry to make any decisions just yet.

"I'd say (I'm hearing the most from) Baylor, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and
Texas," Rhodes said. "I'm just keeping all my options open."

Rhodes, who currently holds an offer from Texas Tech, will be taking a junior
day visit to Texas on Feb. 25.

STERNS IS WIDE OPEN

Cibolo (Texas) Steele safety Jordan Sterns was one of many 2013 prospects to
attend Texas Tech's junior day last Saturday; he received an offer while he was
on the South Plains. Things are going good for the DB on the recruiting trail,
and he's been hearing from programs like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Alabama,
Baylor, LSU and TCU.

"It's real good. I went to Tech this past weekend and got an offer. I've been to
a couple of junior days. I'm going to A&M next week."

The Cibolo native said that his visit to Lubbock was fantastic and hopes to make
another trip to the South Plains in the future.

"It went real good. The facilities were really nice. I liked them. When they
were getting ready to wrap it up, they called me and my family into the coaches
office and gave me an offer. Especially with them being my first offer and the
way they did that, they're really high on my list right now."

"The facilities were nice.(I liked) how the coaches acted, how they talked to
me, how they intereracted with my family. The field was amazing. The campus was
beautiful. I would like to go back and visit again if I could."

Many programs are looking at Sterns as an athlete. Tech, however, has a more
specific plan for the Steele prospect.

"They said they were going to let me play safety," he said. "They said they were
going to recruit me as an athlete because I play on both sides of the ball. I
know they need help on the defense, especially on the backend with the safeties.
I would love to try and help them out as best I could at safety."

The coach recruiting Sterns is co-defensive line coach Robert Prunty. The two
have hit it off early on, and Sterns enjoys talking to the Tech coach.

"Coach Prunty is the one I usually talk to. We usually talk a lot," he said.
"He's the Tech coach that asked me to come to junior day. We talked quite a lot
when I went down there. He's a real cool guy."

Another school recruiting Sterns is Texas A&M. The safety has always had an
affinity for the Aggies and hopes his upcoming junior day visit to College
Station goes well.

"I've always liked A&M. They talked to me for awhile during the season, and I
guess that when the coach got fired he had emailed my mom and told me to go to
junior day, so I'm hoping that goes well and hopefully I'll leave with an
offer."

For now, Sterns said that his leader board is completely open. The Red Raiders
have improved their stock, however.

"Everything is definitely wide open. Tech, I really like them, but everything is
wide open."

Sterns currently holds an offer from Texas Tech.

LOLLAR KEEPING BUSY

J.J. Lollar has been staying busy since signing with Texas Tech two weeks ago.
He is lifting a combined 1790 pounds in the squat lift, bench press and deadlift
including a state-best 780 pounds on the squat lift.

All that weight may have you concerned about how Lollar holds up through the
spring, but he wants to assure you it's not an issue.

"The knee wraps that we wear are really tight on your knees which keeps the
knees from blowing out or the wrong motion or whatever," Lollar said. "I've
always lifted heavy weights and lifted heavy weights at the school during
workouts. I feel like my body is accustomed to heavy weights and I've always
lifted more weight than most people are accustomed to. I was just made to lift
more weight than most people."

Lollar is just 20 pounds away from his 800-pound goal of squatting 800 pounds at
the Texas power lifting state meet.

In addition to power lifting, Tech has mailed Lollar and the rest of its 2012
recruiting class workout regiments to get the players used to the kind of
workouts they'll be performing this summer under the control of strength and
conditioning coach Joe Walker.

The list isn't personalized, everyone is doing the same kind of workout.

"It's a lot of running," Lollar said. "I'll do my power lifting
workouts when it comes to weights and I'll do that in the morning. After school,
I have my sixth and my seventh periods off, so I'll go out there and run with
(Quinton White).

"We have times so he'll run his in the time and then he'll time me for me and my
times. It's a lot of running, especially."

NEWBOLD GLAD TO HAVE PROCESS OVER WITH

Now that signing day has come and gone, reality is finally settling in with the
class of 2012 recruits. Lancaster (Texas) cornerback La'Darius Newbold was
relieved to finally sign his financial aid papers, but was surprised when
reality hit him on NSD.

"It feels good to have something (concrete). It was a relief on signing day. Now
it's just working towards getting ready and stepping on campus," he said.
"Signing day, it was a thrill. It was more than what I expected because of
(everything) at school. Afterwards I went out with my family, and stuff, so it
was just a great experience."

Plain and simple, Newbold is ready for Lubbock. The signee is going through
track season right now but can't wait to head to the Hub City.

"I'm running track right now, so by the time track season is over with, there
will be only two weeks left of school. I'm ready to get down there, get ready,
get working, get with the rest of my teammates. I've been talking with Quinton
(White and Kris (Williams). Me and Kris are actually gonna be roommates, and
I've been talking to Ryan Flannigan and all of those guys, and we're just all
excited about getting down there."
