The Red Raider Confidential is sponsored by Cardinal's Sports Center. If you
need Texas Tech gear or Under Armour apparel, the best place to go in our
opinion is Cardinal's -- they have three convenient locations in Lubbock, a
brand new store in Plano and a fantastic selection on
their website.

If you're in Lubbock or the surrounding area, be sure to stop by Cardinal's at
some point between now and Sunday. Not only is this a tax-free weekend for
back-to-school supplies, but Cardinal's is also holding a huge sale -- $15 off
men's and women's shoes $114.99 and up, $10 off all other men's and women's
shoes, $5 off kids' shoes, Columbia shirts $10 off, Nike and Under Armour
polo-style shirts $10 off, 20 percent off backpacks, Nike Tempo and Pacer shorts
10 percent off and Reef Sandals are 20 percent off.

Daniels Very Happy With Decision

Albuquerque (N.M.) La Cueva athlete

Ronnie Daniels
is getting back into the swing of things on the gridiron.
With two-a-days wrapped up and his first scrimmage looming, Daniels is glad to
have football as the focal point again.

"We had two-a-days last week and just finished that up. We have our first
scrimmage tomorrow (Thursday). I'm feeling good and our team is looking good,"
Ronnie said. "We're working hard and I think the effort has been there that we
need to repeat as state champions. We expect nothing less than last year."

Since giving his commitment to Texas Tech in July, Daniels has continued to hear
from programs across the country. "(Arizona) Coach (Mike) Stoops just messaged
me the other day. He wants me to get out to Tucson and see their program. I
still get a lot of mail and emails from the staff at Vanderbilt, too."

Daniels sounds solid in his commitment, having weathered the storm that came
with leaving his home-state for an out-of-state program.

"Everyone has been really excited about my commitment. My friends and family
think it's a great choice, and I think it's a great choice," he said. "There
have been some people here that have been disappointed and upset that I'm not
staying here in New Mexico. I understand, though. Those people don't have my
best interests in mind, only what they wanted for their favorite team. I had to
make a choice and I'm happy with it. Everything has been going pretty good since
then."

The new coaching staff in Lubbock is something that stood out to the 2011
prospect from the beginning. He's developed a close relationship with inside
receivers coach Sonny Cumbie and has the utmost confidence in the resume of
Tommy Tuberville.

"I like the relationship I've built with all of the coaches there. That was
something that I didn't find at some other places, but had at the start of my
relationship with Tech," he said. "I like the entire staff and I like the way
that they're building their program. It's a program on the rise.

"Coach Tuberville is a great coach and has a great history. I feel like I can
take the talent that I've been blessed with and have success on the next level.
The best place I found to do that was at Texas Tech. I'm expecting big things."

The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder has yet to set an official visit to the South Plains,
but has made tentative plans to be in Lubbock for the season opener, along with
a fellow 2011 commit.

"I haven't set any (official visits) yet. I'm planning on visiting Tech for sure
this fall whenever I have the chance. I was talking with

Tony Morales
and we're thinking about going to the SMU game together on an
unofficial visit. We'll see how that works out."

Daniels elaborated on the feeling amongst members of the Red Raiders' 2011
class, a thought that won't be new to followers of the program's recruiting
efforts.

"We feel like this Tech class is one of the best that they've signed and we're
all excited to be a part of something that will hopefully get the program to the
next level."

Ronnie committed to Texas Tech earlier this month over offers from Arizona, East
Carolina, Illinois, Minnesota, New Mexico, New Mexico State, San Diego State and
Tulsa.

Amaro Working On Davis

With Texas Tech's 2011 recruiting efforts winding down on offense, San Antonio
(Texas) MacArthur tight end and Red Raider commit

Jace Amaro
has begun working on some of the state's top 2012 talent.

"I've been talking to
Matt Davis
from Klein Forest, the quarterback," Amaro said. "I've been
talking to him a lot. I know when he went up there (in June) he really enjoyed
the visit and the camp stuff. Tech is really high for him right now, so that's
definitely a good thing."

Wilson Discusses Gridiron King Experience

Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson linebacker

Ramik Wilson
, who listed Tech in his top six earlier this week, enjoyed his
experience at last month's Gridiron King event.

"It was a good experience," Wilson said. :I got to be around the top guys in the
nation and finally got to be around some linebackers my size, but it was great
competition.

"I think I did real good, I had a pick six to the house in the third game for
about 40 yards and I got the chance to work on my pass coverage, so I think I
did pretty good."

As we detailed in the story, Wilson spoke at length with Austin (Texas) Lake
Travis quarterback and Red Raider commit

Michael Brewer
while in Orlando, which can only help Tech's chances.

Tech Still In Griffin's Future

We caught up with former Clinton (Okla.) running back and 2010 signee

Delans Griffin
on Thursday and the one-time four-star prospect confirmed
that he is currently attending Northeastern Oklahoma A&M C.C. in Miami, Okla.

"I'm going to play here my first semester. I'll redshirt the next time around
and then graduate next December," Griffin said. "I have to complete three
semesters here, around 60 hours or so.

"It's a school that the (Tech) coaches put me in contact with and helped get me
involved with. I definitely appreciate the help they've given me and I can't
wait to get there and show them that their effort, and mine, has paid off."

Griffin still plans on heading to Lubbock once he graduates from NEO.

"I'll still be heading to Tech when I'm done here," he said. "I call Coach
(Tommy) Mainord pretty often and he's let me know that I'm still a part of what
they want to do there in the future. It feels good to still have those guys in
my corner. I'm not sure I would have had this opportunity without them."

If all goes according to plan, Griffin will have three years to play three when
he arrives on the South Plains.

Thomas Has High Interest In Tech

Killeen (Texas) forward

TaShawn Thomas
has narrowed his list to Alabama, Colorado, Colorado State,
Houston, Minnesota and Texas Tech and told RRS
this week that he is very interested in the Red Raiders.

"I've talked with Coach (Stu) Robinson," he said. "My interest in Tech is high."

Thomas hasn't made any definite plans to visit Lubbock yet, but told us that he
will for sure be visiting Alabama and "maybe" checking out Colorado and Houston.

York's Stock Is Rising

Del Valle (Texas) forward

Karim York
has started to see his stock rise after a strong performance on
the AAU circuit this summer.

"I have a TCU offer, Wichita State, SMU, Texas State, North Texas, UNC
Wilmington, Santa Clara, and there are some other schools that have offered," he
said, "but those are the ones that I can say off the top of my head."

Texas Tech has not yet offered York, but he remains in contact with associate
head coach Chris Beard.

"No, they haven't offered yet," York said. "We are still talking; Chris Beard is
basically telling me that if I keep working that I could have the opportunity.

"I like Tech a lot. It's in the Big 12, so it's going to be real good
competition. Texas Tech in general, with Bob Knight and all of that, it's just a
basketball school to me. I really like it and the system that they play is good.
They get out and run and the defense is serious, too. They are going to push me
and develop me into a better player, so I really like it."

Even though the Red Raiders haven't offered yet, York lists them in his top
three.

"I have like a top ten," he said. "No. 1 would be SMU, No. 2 Santa Clara, No. 3
Tech, No. 4 Wichita State, No. 5 TCU, No. 6 Creighton, No. 7 Tulsa, No. 8 UNC
Wilmington, No. 9 UTEP, and No. 10 North Texas"
