Lammert Has A Final Four
San Antonio (Texas) Churchill power forward
Connor Lammert was in Lubbock earlier this month for a brief unofficial
visit. He was in town for just 48 hours or so, but still had a good time.
"It wasn't a long visit, but it was nice. I got to visit with Coach (Billy)
Gillispie, Coach (Chris) Walker, and Coach (Bubba) Jennings," Lammert said. "I
got to see a lot of the staff. It was good to catch up with them and they showed
me around campus. It's a beautiful campus and we had a really good time with
them, and also when I had a chance to catch up with my brother."
Following his visit to the South Plains, Lammert narrowed his options down to
four.
"I've got a top four right now with Tech, A&M, UT, and Vanderbilt. I'm set with
them. It was a tough decision, but I had to cut down the list," he said. "At the
end of the day, I feel good about those four. I don't really feel like I could
go wrong with any of them."
The 6-foot-9, 215-pounder is scheduling official visits with those four schools,
and a decision could be just a little more than a month away.
"Coach Gillispie wanted me to come on October 8th, but I'm wanting to get my
decision made by late September -- early October. So that's when I'm still
planning on getting that done," Lammert said. "So I'm going to be end up being
there at Tech for the weekend they play Nevada, on September 23rd."

2013 WR Wants To Visit
Tech
Dallas (Texas) Skyline wide receiver
Ra'Shaad Samples is making an effort to get to West Texas.
"I've been talking with Texas Tech a lot, but I missed their camps in the
spring. They've been trying to get me up there to see the campus and just have a
look at things there," Samples said. "They wanted me to come be around some of
the players and watch one of their practices I think. We're trying to find a
time for me to get there."
Samples called and spoken with Red Raider offensive coordinator Neal Brown and
describes their relationship as "solid." Aside from Tech, Samples is hearing
from Kansas State, Texas, Cal, and SMU the most. He indicated that he wouldn't
mind playing outside of the state of Texas.
"I don't have any preference on playing in state or away from home. Whichever
school fits me and I like the best I'll go with," he said. "Distance isn't
really going to matter when I make my decision."

Okafor Locked In With Red Raiders
Houston Westbury (Texas) Offensive tackle
Christian Okafor has completely shut down his recruitment.
"I think people realize Tech is the school that I am going to stick to," he
said. "I am not worried about recruiting any more I am just trying to prepare
for this season and finish this season healthy and doing my best to help this
team go as far as possible this year."
The 6-foot-6, 300-pound prospect has also recently talked his brother and
current Tech offensive tackle Micky Okafor about how the Red Raiders look for
the upcoming season.
"All he mentioned is how hard the offseason was this year but how good the whole
team looked after going through it. We try to talk more about us and how we are
doing more than football. We get enough of that in our every day lives."
Okafor committed to Tech over offers from Baylor, Houston, LSU and Mississippi
State.

OU Commit Wants To Visit Tech
Port Lavaca (Texas) Calhoun athlete Daniel Brooks is still hearing from several
schools despite his commitment to Oklahoma.
"I still have UT, OSU and Texas Tech talking to me," he said. "A couple of other
ones who I stay in contact with are Cal, Nebraska and Stanford."
Though Brooks remains "pretty strong" with the Sooners, he still plans on
visiting at least one other program this fall.
"I am going to visit OU and Texas Tech," he said. "As of right now, I have OSU
and maybe UT as well that I want to visit. I don't know if I have any other
schools I want to get up to see but those are the ones standing out for visits
now."

Family Big For Overstreet
Family plays a big part in everyday life for Tatum (Texas) athlete
Jalen Overstreet, and family will play a large role in deciding which
college he'll attend.
"Family is big to me all the time and I'm looking for a program that feels like
a family. If I'm going to be spending years living somewhere I want it to be a
place that I feel comfortable, and one that has a family type vibe," he said.
"My family's input will be important so I want it to be somewhere that they can
relax about me being there."
Division I football players are in Overstreet's family tree, and so far they've
exerted a certain amount of influence with the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder.
"My dad played for Baylor and my uncle played for TCU so they're kind of hinting
at things from time to time," he said. "They haven't put too much pressure on
me, though. They want it to be my decision all the way."
Tech was the first program to offer Overstreet as a quarterback.

Ogbah Wants To Visit Tech
Richmond (Texas) Bush defensive end
Emmanuel Ogbah hopes to visit Texas Tech in the fall.
"I'd like to take an official visit to Texas Tech, but I've got to figure out
how to get there," he said. "If it's possible, I want to go see them."
Ogbah is being recruited by running backs coach Chad Scott.
"I've been hearing from them for a little while now. I talk with Coach (Chad)
Scott ever now and then. We've got a good relationship. We've talked about a lot
of things other than football, and he seems like a good and positive guy."
Aside from Tech, the 6-foot-4, 233-pounder currently holds offers from Arizona,
Iowa State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Nevada, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Towson,
UNLV and UTEP.

JUCO WR Will Visit?
Hutchinson (Kansas) C.C. wide receiver
Cordarrelle Patterson is another 2012 prospect who has Texas Tech on his
list of likely official visit destinations.
"I don't have any visits scheduled right now, but I have an idea of where I want
to go. I'd like to get to Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn, Texas Tech, and Arkansas,"
Patterson said. "I don't know when the best time to do it will be yet, but those
are the schools I'm wanting to see."
Patterson mentioned Tennessee and Georgia as the schools he's currently hearing
from the most.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder hasn't defined a timeline for a decision yet.
"I think I'll let it come whenever I feel like I'm ready," Patterson said. "I
don't want to put any pressure on myself to have it done by a certain time. I'll
make the decision when I find the school I know I'll be the most comfortable
with."
Patterson currently holds offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Georgia, Kansas
State, Miami (Fla.), Minnesota, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Texas Tech.

Quick Hits
* Houston (Texas) Westfield defensive lineman
Anthony Smith says he is "100 percent" committed to Texas Tech, but wants to
take advantage of the opportunities available to him via the recruiting process
and take official visits to Boise State and Wake Forest during the season.
* Christian Okafor wanted it to be known that one of the deciding factors in his
decision to commit to Tech was the conduct of assistant coaches Otis Mounds and
Matt Moore.
"I never got to say this but Coach Mounds and Coach Moore did a very good job
recruiting me within the rules," Okafor said. "It actually played an important
factor in my final decision. You turn on the TV and hear so many things about
Ohio State, Miami and other schools. Texas Tech came in clean, works it by the
books and I respect them for that. It is good to see that their are some good
guys out there still."
* Waco (Texas) La Vega defensive end
Michael Starts says he hasn't talked to any coaches from any school since
committing to Tech in June and doesn't plan on visiting any other programs in
the future.
"I think I am just going to visit Tech. I think that is the best position for me
right now," he said. "It is the best choice, I liked the school, the coaches and
I met some of the football players when I was down there this past summer. It is
the best school for me."
