The Red Raider Confidential is sponsored by Cardinal's Sports Center. If you need Texas Tech gear or Under Armour apparel, the best place to go in our opinion is Cardinal's -- they have a tremendous location in Lubbock (Slide and S. Loop 289), a store in Plano and a fantastic selection on their website.

Texas Tech extended an offer to 2017 legacy recruit, Ty Thomas on Tuesday. The junior safety is currently a Washington State commit, but he is still very excited about the Tech offer and is high on the Red Raiders.

“It’s definitely early and as of right now, I’m going to weigh out my options. As of right now, I have been a Tech fan since I was little and they are high on my list,” he said. “They just have a lot of energy about the team and Coach Kingsbury is just as an awesome coach. I’ve just grown up liking them.”

Thomas received the offer over the phone with Kingsbury was soon contacted on twitter by both Eric Morris and David Gibbs.

“Over twitter I talked to Coach Gibbs and Coach Morris and they both congratulated me. Coach Gibbs said they could use some tacklers and would love for me to come and help build the defense.”

Outside of a few of the Tech coaches, the area standout received congratulatory tweets from a few other Tech commits and targets.

“Right after my offer I got a few DMs from Desmon Smith, the corner from Permian and then Jack Anderson from Frisco. It was good to get to talk to them. They talked up the university and that whole deal. It was good to get a second opinion on that. They just kept telling me that there is no place like home.”

The three-star safety definitely has the bloodlines that should make him a good player on the next level. Both his dad (Bart Thomas) and uncle (Zach Thomas) started for the Red Raiders in the early 90s. Zach was recently inducted into both the college football and Texas Tech Hall of Fames. Both elder Thomas brothers were excited to hear that their alma mater offered Ty.

“They were pumped, definitely. I’ve been raised a Red Raider, so they were both definitely excited about the offer,” he said. “I’ve learned everything from them. My uncle was a bit undersized, and I am not the ideal height for my position. He always taught me that if I could make the plays, I’ll win the job. My uncle has definitely made a difference in the way I play. My dad also played safety and has taught me everything I know on that.”

At times, recruits will go unnoticed until they've reached out to programs they're interested in. That's exactly what happened with in San Bernardino (CA) Valley junior college offensive lineman Paul Ramirez. He recently started to speak with the Red Raiders. Ramirez’s film is what caught the eyes of the coaching staff, and set up the communication.

The 6-foot-7, 295 pound lineman has received interest from several school, and holds offers from Colorado State, UTSA and Middle Tennessee State. Although things are just warming up between he and Texas Tech, he’s looking forward to potentially receiving an offer.

“I've been in contact with them for about a week and a half. I sent them my hudl link found in my bio. I spoke with coach (Eric) Morris. Same time about a week and a half, same deal sent him my film. He asked for my transcripts. So that's a step towards an offer. I would be very excited to receive an offer from them” said Ramirez.

The greater Houston area has been one of Texas’ hotbeds for talented prospects since the beginning. Missouri City (Texas) offensive tackle Travis Bruffy is quick to point out that he's been the beneficiary of playing against so many division one athletes on a weekly basis.

“I take a five minute car drive and I'm with Michael Johnson and Darrius Anderson, the probably the best defense line in the state. I can also take another five minute drive in the other direction and I'm going against Ross Blacklock and their great defensive line. I'm in just a hotbed of talent in this defensive line area, and we're all friends and work out together during the offseason. That's definitely improved me.” said Bruffy.

I caught up with Texas Tech wide receiver commit Antoine Cox-Wesley of Cibolo Steele earlier this week, who was planning a trip to Lubbock this weekend. We’ll look to confirm today whether or not he made it in, as the San Antonio area was hit with some pretty hard storms.

Cox-Wesley is in line to be one of the several Cibolo Steele Knights turned Texas Tech Red Raiders, a trend started when former Steele head coach Mike Jinks became a Red Raider.

“My freshman year I first met him,” Cox-Wesley said. “We had a good connection and talked about football and we talked about what I needed to do to make it to the next level and now I’m committed.”

“I think it was pretty big (when I committed) because I was another one of his old teammates going up there to make the team even better.”

Barring something completely crazy, Steele will go into the Class 6A playoffs undefeated in a few weeks.

“It’s amazing, we just trust the whole process of what we do and follow everything our coaches tell us to do and we’re successful.”

Cox-Wesley stays in regular contact with coach Chiaverini, coach Jinks, coach Morris and coach Curtis.

“(Listed at 6-foot-4) - they said I’ll probably be the biggest receiver they have when I get there.”

I also caught up with Lubbock Cooper 2017 quarterback Jarret Doege earlier this week, prior to the Pirates 28-20 Friday night win over Abilene Cooper to clinch the district crown.

Several schools are evaluating the junior, including Texas Tech, Washington State, SMU, Purdue, Houston and Texas State.

“I’m really open to wherever,” Doege said. “My dream is to play at Tech. If I could get an offer there, that would be great, but I’m open to anywhere.”

Much has changed around the Texas Tech program in the three seasons that have passed since Seth led the Red Raiders onto the field on Saturdays, but Jarret’s dream of playing for Tech hasn’t changed.

“I really like the energy they bring on the field and off the field, they got something really special going right now,” Doege said. “They’re having a good season and Kingsbury is starting to take it to another level. I like how he carries himself. Since my brother went there, I have a good relationship with the coaches up there.”

“I talk to coach Morris and coach Reed, they talk to me a little bit. Coach Morris and I have a good relationship and coach Kingsbury, I have a good relationship with him.”

Sooner or later, offers are sure to roll in for the rising junior.

“If I don’t have an offer (by summer), I’ll be going to quite a few camps to get noticed more,” Doege said.

The Texas Tech coaches offered Mansfield (TX) 2017 wide receiver Saiid Adebo earlier this week.

"I just got a Texas Tech offer a few days ago," Adebo said. "Coach (Kevin) Curtis reached out to me about a month ago, after the third game of our season. We have been talking and I like what coach has had to tell me about the program at Tech so far, but I still have a lot to learn now that the offer came through."

The 6-foot-1, 174-pound junior prospect already holds six offers from Arkansas, Duke, Kansas, Oklahoma, SMU and now Texas Tech.

"I'm starting to receive a lot of mail too," Adebo said. "Notre Dame, Washington, Oklahoma State, Duke, Ole Miss, Northwestern and Texas have all been sending a lot of mail lately. It's still early in the process for me, but I will probably start to take some visits in the off season and learn more about the programs that have already offered me."
