I was standing talking to some parents of players of a great girls basketball team the 2019 Higher Goals Elite Elevation girls basketball team about 9:00 PM last night at the Fieldhouse in Frisco during the national PBR 64 AAU tournament. I was wearing a Tech tee shirt, but my daughter and I had searched the gym filled with coaches, scouts, players and parents for about an hour without seeing anyone with Tech gear on. As I am talking, I see this very attractive woman with a Tech tee shirt on, staring at me. I think, does she think I am also hot, or does she have something to do with Tech. I then precede to go over and say, "Hi, I am Jack Journey, are you with Tech? She says yes I am Candi. I said I guess you figured out I am the one that has been sending you emails about the greatness of Mia Deck (5'7") PG/SG and also other prospects you need to look at Bailey Lewis (a 6'5" and still growing center, who her coach Max Green said may be one of the top recruits in the country by the time she commits), and Abbey Walter (5'7") PG/SG, who attended Candi's Lubbock camp in June. In addition, a girl who is on another HG team and will be a 2016 graduate Lexi Jones, who will be attending Aledo HS this year and is coached by her father and former Red Raider PG Fred "Deuce" Jones."
I was so thrilled Candi showed up at this game, that I forgot to introduce my 10 year old daughter, who I hope will also one day be a Lady Raider, Jade. I will make up for that though when the Lady Raiders play in DFW this year. I followed up with an email last night thanking Candi for showing up, telling her about Lexi Jones's father's contact information if she wants to try to see her play today and telling her I hope one day I will be able to tell people I helped Candi in some small way to turn around the Lady Raider program and bring it back to the status of the golden years when Sheryl Swoopes carried the team on her back. I also got to meet and watch practice 2016 Lady Raider commit 6'4" Dee Moore from Allen HS. Thanks to jacketgrad 2001 Raider for getting me Candi Whitaker's email address on June 26 and S A MAC for letting me know the Tech coaches would be leaving Lubbock on July 5, to watch kids at the AAU tournaments.
