GUNS UP: Permian senior cornerback Des Smith announced via Twitter on Monday that he has committed to Texas Tech.
Smith took his second visit to Texas Tech for the team’s final home game against Kansas State on Saturday. The Red Raiders defeated the Wildcats 59-44.
Smith enjoys every time he travels to Texas Tech, whether if it was for a recruitment visit or football camp during the summer. The first recruitment visit for Smith was on Sept. 26 when the Red Raiders hosted TCU.
“I’ve been up there a couple times and it just seems to get better every time I’m there,” Smith said.
The loyalty of the fan base is what sets Texas Tech apart for Smith.
“The atmosphere there is great, especially being from West Texas,” he said. “It’s a big football atmosphere year round. I’ve been to schools where the people go to the games, partying and leave at halftime. At Tech, the fan base is crazy and they stay for the whole game.”
