In our galaxy there are roughly 100 million Black Holes that if we could see them would look to be roughly 10 miles across. The astonishing fact about these black holes is that they have a circumference of 30 miles their diameter can be anywhere from a thousand miles to a million miles. Visualize a flat sheet with a heavy rock in the middle and the sheet Bending downward. These black holes are not made of matter. They are made of warped space. Think about E=MC2 (energy is matter) In the middle of our galaxy there is a black hole that if we could see it would be the size of the distance from the earth to the moon. Eventually we know because of Hawking that all these black holes will evaporate.
But Inflation theory has led us (in fact if inflation is true then there is no doubt that multi universes exists. The thinking now is that at the end of the Black Hole space pinches off and thus creates a new universe.
The more we understand about how we got here it seems the universe is eternal and that we will never be able to communicate with these other universes.
That matter and energy can be converted back and forth and that Black Holes are not dense objects made up of matter but warped space is truly astonishing and we will never know why the universe acts as it does.
