Our coverage of March Madness is brought to you by All Hands Craft Cocktails!
Kyler Edwards:
- They've been preparing for this type of tournament all year. They knew it would be different with covid but they'll go in and take care of business.
- Assembly Hall had Kyler a little speechless. Beard told them the history of the arena then seeing the banners and everything was awesome for them.
- Marcus Santos-Silva has tournament experience but hasn't won there. He has a chip on his shoulder to go make a run.
- Mac McClung is a real competitive guy and his defense has gotten better. He's played a major part this team.
- Kyler's favorite moment was taking the ride to the locker room after the Final Four win.
- They're just ready to go out there and compete. Coach Beard's message has been the same since day one. They have to compete every day and be better than they were yesterday.
- Kyler saying Utah State is an older team. They have to be tough against them.
Chris Beard:
- The team doesn't have to pack their entire closet but bring enough. Locking apartments and stuff back in Lubbock need to be handled. There's a checklist to make sure they stay organized from when they leave to when they have to come back from the tournament. That kind of organization keeps them focused on the tasks at hand.
- Assembly Hall will be a special place to play.
- Tyreek will be in the rotation
- Utah State's Neemias Queta will be a problem and he's a pro player in Beard's eye.
- Beard has a ton of respect for Craig Smith. They share a connection with Matt Mooney. He considers Craig a friend in the business.
- Beard thinks this team is more than close to being a champion. He thinks any Big 12 tournament team can make the Final Four. With this team, close doesn't matter nuless you're throwing horseshoes or hand grenades. They need to value every possession.
- "If you have nerves right now- man - start the bus." When game time hits it's understandable but they can't make a run with nerves.
- When asked about the height disadvantage to Utah State, he said they have concerns with this team but feel like they'll match them in the size department since Peavy, Edwards, Shannon, etc. are big guards in their lineup.
That'll do it.
