Buried in a thread was a short discussion about the motion offense. Would like to hear thoughts.
I had the unfortunate task of coaching 3 years of basketball. Although I loved playing it, coaching it was never my thing. So what I say needs to be read through the lens of me being an idiot. But, I do understand sport and strategy, so maybe a minor idiot.
To me, the motion offense is very much like the veer in football. When run right, with the right personnel and against the right team, it can be very effective. But, imo, like the veer, the motion offense is outdated and does not work well with superior athletes. The motion has worked very well when we did NOT have players like Ramsey, Shannon, McClung, etc.....it worked well with slower, intellectual types in Indiana, Harvard and others.
Just wondering if my assessment of this offense is right and that we need to evolve as our recruiting has evolved???
