Another 4-0 week in the books against some better competition than Maine. No television was available to stream the weekend series against the road runners, so there will only be a few notes on them.

- I did get to tune into the 12-0 walloping of the NMSU Aggies.

- NMSU has a good lineup, and shutting them out in a midweek game is pretty impressive. Teams like that always seem to pester TTU for a win or two during the season. I think this win shows just how deep you are as a pitching staff.

- If Ryan Shetter throws like that consistently, he's your Sunday starter.

- Oh yea, that NMSU team, on the weekend, had the following for run totals; 39, 15, and 20. 74 runs in a three game series. Shetter and Co. shut them down.

UTSA series

- Two straight shutouts to start the series is impressive, no matter who you're playing. A weekend sweep for the Red Raiders included two solid outings by Davis Martin and McMillon.

- McMillon has looked really impressive to me being moved to a starting pitcher. Mentally, to know you have 98 in the bag and not want to just hum it up there on every pitch is impressive. You have to change your approach as a starter, simply because you're expected to get through that lineup more than once.

- Two players stood out offensively, Kurt Wilson and Gabe Holt. In fact, Holt leads this team in hitting. Jung looked to have had a little slower of a weekend than that blazing hot start. Really impressive to see two freshman look so comfortable. Holt's speed just brings a different dimension to this team.

Looking forward to this weekend. Following a one game set today against Rio Grande Valley, it's gonna be fun. South Alabama is a good baseball team this season, and will provide quite a test for the Red Raiders over a 4 game stretch.

The Jags are 7-1, with that lone loss being to a ranked Southern Missouri team 10-9. It should be noted that they are yet to play a true road game this season. So heading to Lubbock could prove to be tough.

Hitting

- Offensively they are balanced, and of the players with 6 or more starts, 3 of them are hitting under .300. Pretty impressive. Hell, on of those players that's under .300 is hitting .296.

- Watch for Wells Davis and Travis Swaggerty, who have combined for 5 of the teams 8 homers and 21 RBI.

- This lineup does show the propensity to strikeout, averaging just below 10 K's per ballgame.

Advantage - TTU. This team actually reminds you a lot of the Red Raiders lineup. Balance, no real weaknesses, but no-one that's going to hit 20+ bombs. They also don't like to run much, only stealing 6 bases this year, so to score runs they rely on stringing together hits.

- You can't imagine Jung won't get things going again this weekend, and you will need more from Klein and Warren to protect him. To me, Gabe Holt sets the tone for this team. Grind out AB's and find ways on base.

Pitching

- This is a bit of a mystery to me, as I graze their stat sheet, they only have 2 players with more than one start.

- Tyler Carr will be the top of their rotation guy with a 1.50 ERA. But if you look a little deeper, teams are hitting .261 off of him, and it looks like several more runs were not earned. Maybe he has good stuff, maybe he's been able to pitch out of some jams. We will see.

- The staff as a whole has an ERA of 3.27, which is really impressive, especially without 2-3 really good starters. Looks like everyone can come out of the pen and anyone could start. Possibly just piecing together 9 innings instead of the traditional starter.

Without knowing much about how they approach pitching in a game, I'm still putting my money on Davis Martin, McMillon, Shetter, Kilian, and company. When you can jog out guys throwing in the mid 90's on a Sunday of a 4 game stretch, that's flat out impressive. Kilian has looked close to unhittable.

Just a few stats and how they matchup.

BA
TTU - .332
South Alabama - .290

ERA
TTU - 1.43
South Alabama - 3.27

Just saw that the last game against UTSA has not fully updated the stats. I will edit when I see the latest.

Red Raiders 3-1 this weekend over the Jaguars.
