Wow, what a comeback win. Down 8 after the top of the first doesn’t usually end in a W.
Our starting pitching through 2 games has been.....not so great. This is clearly an area that needs attention and help.
We can still hit the ball, for anyone that might have been concerned with that. We have added some great pieces to this team, and we haven’t even seen all of them yet. The way we were able to pinch hit and move Neuse and Holt around in the outfield is huge. Having such versatile players in the field allows coach to make a multitude of moves.
My players of the game are Trey Garlett and Taylor Floyd. Those two kids stepped up tonight on the mound and stopped the bleeding, which gave our offense time to make that beautiful comeback. I know we did a ton at the plate tonight (this afternoon that turned into a night game), but Oregon might have put up 20 if those two pitchers didn’t shut it down.
Not to be outdone, Keesee gets a big out, and Clayton Beeter comes in and slams the door shut. I don’t know if any of these kids can be consistent, but if they are, we have now found 4 kids who can pitch, at minimum, in relief. I see Gareth earning a starting role before the season is over. He may not make it to the weekend, but if that kid can give you 5-6 solid outings on a Tuesday night, that’s huge.
We need to have Montgomery start fast, go fast in the middle, and finish fast tomorrow for us on the mound. Hopefully our bats sty hot and we put Oregon away early. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage the last two games, as I’m not sure how much pitching they have left that is quality.
One last thing, Dylan Dusek’s father is apparently still attending games and starting Raider Power chants. That guy loves TTU!
Great win, Guns UP!
