Can someone explain to me, like the real reason, we are still dealing with human error with balls and strikes? With so much on the line it seems crazy to me that this is still a thing. I just watched an Astros pitcher throw the exact same pitch twice in a row, to the exact same location, and one was called a ball, the other a strike. I watched a video compilation the other day of Angel Hernandez’s worst calls of the year. It was crazy to watch. Millions of $’s and careers are on the line and this is what we’re doing in 2023. We have AI, self driving cars and remote controlled drones on Mars. And yes, I have the exact same question for measuring first downs with chains, sticks and squinted eyeballs.
What are we doing? Like what is the pushback against using available technology?
