Maybe it's the exposure every night on TV. Maybe it's the SportsCenter overdrive. Maybe it's the NCAA installing a replay system to call them on their faults..... but damn.
How are these guy still employed on a night to night basis?
This is one of my personal favorites, which is miraculously called a jump ball, as the Tennessee player is draped on the guy like a bad Christmas sweater. The best part is that call is made by the official at the scorers table, who sprints in like a WWE wrestler.
The same official, almost to spite the Ole Miss head coach, called a charge at halfcourt tonight too. Then he gave the Rebels' coach a Technical.
Look, I understand their job is phenomenally difficult, I really do. The story of each night on Sports highlights has been about how bad officials are, in all sports. It takes so much away from the actual game.
Look at our game. That geriatric white guy completely took control of the basketball game in the second half, both ways. Not even just for TTU or for OSU. We went from 20 minutes of hoops with 13 total fouls to 20 minutes of basketball with 27 fouls.
Watched the end of the UT vs BU game. Baylor is trying to intentionally foul, official ignores it, then calls a travel. BU possession ends in a foul on UT and BU wins on free throws.
They are taking over games.
The examples are through the roof.
I'm not sure how you fix it. I think that's what stinks the most as a sports fan. You can't review everything.
Maybe quit over-writing so many rules with the intricacy of heart surgery? I got no clue.
I just hate that we put microphones in front of these kids playing. And officials go home, and do their tax return in the morning....
