The Chris Beard extension thread got me to thinking about our athletic dept. debt service. Specifically how much and how long we owe on the debt.
For the longest time we have talked about how poor we are as an athletic dept. despite record TV contracts etc. Granted there are many variables that go into the equation, new TV deal value, BB attendance picking up, concessions and merchandise sales increasing etc.
Anyhow, the most recent article I could find is linked below. Essentially we are paying about $18M a year in dept. service, and have about 9 years left until debt free. Thinking about what we could afford in terms of staffing and facility enhancement, and the like with that $18M a year is pretty encouraging. Just think what life as a TTU fan would be like if we pay that off even earlier. We can almost smell the barn!
