Like I predicted on Friday, Rodriguez did end up committing to Virginia over Tech who finished a close 2nd. For the last couple months Rodriguez was a strong Tech lean, but at the end of the day he and his family wanted the chance to play quarterback.
Tech has his brother on the team, best friend in Jed Castles committed and another teammate committed in Dooda Banks but all that didn’t beat the QB offer.
I don’t expect the coaches to give up here but I also don’t see Rodriguez flipping. If he wanted to come to Tech to play linebacker he’s had a bunch of time to make that move. Onto the next...
Stephens was all set to announce his commitment on Friday but has now postponed his plans. He has offers from Tech, Oklahoma St, Baylor, UNT and Eastern Michigan.
“I just need more time to think and clear my mind before a really big decision.”
Sounds like SMU and Memphis could be close to offering here too but Tech remains in a great spot.
I reached out to Perkins and asked him for his thoughts on Tech/coach Jones.
“Yeah I love coach Jones and all the other coaches show major love to me as well! I really look forward to visiting Tech!”
Though unranked, Perkins has 20+ offers including Baylor, Mizzou, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and West Virginia so he’d be a big time get for whoever lands him.
Wright visited Tech in early March for a spring practice which is when he picked up his offer. There was some thought he could commit on the spot but that clearly didn’t end up happening.
Still, Wright tells me he hears from the coaches every day and he plans to use one of his official visits to Tech. He’s insanely productive for an interior defensive lineman with 124 tackles, 51 tackles for loss and 14 sacks last season.
Martin could be the LB target the coaches turn to with Jacob Rodriguez off the board. He tells me he stays in heavy contact with East Texas recruiter Joel Filani and LB’s Coach Kevin Cosgrove.
He also mentioned the coaches want to get him down to Lubbock as soon as possible. Same high school as Xavier Benson...
