Assuming Wells is the man, he would come in at a lower salary than most of the coaching targets. That said, his assistants would certainly earn less than he would. This kind of limits the caliber or level of his assistants.
This is kind of what we go through every year, an annual culling of the assistants, and generally speaking its not because they are leaving for better jobs. We would not pay for big time proven assistants because they cost bigger bucks and they can't make more than the head coach.
To me, this and the fact that there are no recruiting ties to Texas are the biggest cons to his hiring.
