Wanted to share this with my RRS family...
I’ve been very lucky in my life, I haven’t really ever had to experience the loss of a loved one. Unfortunately that changed yesterday as my grandfather passed away at the age of 102. We have been anticipating this for quite some time now, but the reality of it has been difficult. Especially for my mom, who spent the past couple of years as his primary care giver. As well as my grandma, who literally spent everyday with him since he returned from WWII. They were married for nearly 77 years. I know we are more fortunate than most to have gotten so many years with him. But that doesn’t make it any easier.
I ask that you pray for my family, especially my mom, during these next few days. As now in the process of saying goodbye to her father, she will be primarily responsible for the logistics of what comes next, and she has some siblings who are sure to make the process more difficult.
He wasn’t perfect, but he was a good man. He fought to liberate Jews from Nazi internment camps in Germany, then returned home to raise 9 children, and stayed by his wife’s side the entire way. He was active in his garden up into his mid-late 90’s. I truly believed he was invincible at times. I’m thankful for memories of catching fish and hunting squirrels in his backyard. Countless stories from a life that saw so many different major historical landmarks take place. And hearing him tell me “don’t rush off, now!” every single time I would leave after visiting for hours on end!
I will miss my pawpaw dearly!
Thank you for your prayers.
