D1 baseball guys both picked Arky to win. Not shocking, but Aaron Fitt has gotten one total game right thus far so grade of slaw.
Arkansas will start LHP Kacey Murphy. He is around 87-90 with the fastball and really relies on secondary stuff more than the other power pitchers at the CWS. He has an ERA of 3.12 and is 8-5. If TTU can jump on him early, they will go to one of their bullpen horses. Reindl, Cronin, or Loseke.
It sounds like sour grapes, but if Loseke does enter the game. Tadlock will quickly jog out to talk to the home plate umpire and talk about shimmying on the mound, especially after Shetter was called for simply hesitating. Probably still a balk, but I really didn't think you should make that call to score the first run of a CWS game. I digress.
Here is where the chess match begins. If you do see Davis Martin start this game, I think the bullpen will be up early and often as soon as he gets into trouble. The trademark of the hogs is really sensing blood in the water and burying teams. If Davis can roll through 2-3 innings and really has his sinker going, his stuff will keep the Arkansas lineup in the park.
If you start Caleb Kilian, considering the low chance for a stop and start game like we anticipated last night, I think TTU rolls. He's had over a week and a half off after looking pretty exhausted against duke. His curveball is swing and miss. Locate the fastball. Use the changeup to keep them guessing.
I really like this Texas Tech team. I don't think that any national pundit has picked them to win in probably the last 4-5 games, and yet here they stand in the winners bracket in Omaha after beating Brady Singer. They continue to find ways to win. Small ball, Home runs, defensive stands, some how they keep winning.
Side note, Florida sets up really well with these rain delays. Singer and Kowar are arguably the best two starters in Omaha between the remaining 6 teams. Being able to just use two starters is massive with the way the tourney has dragged out.
TTU - 8
Arky - 3
This is not the soft tossing LHP that has plagued TTU the last few years. Guys that don't touch 80mph give this team fits, I think we can hit Murphy early and often. With the three days off, you have every bullpen bullet ready to go. Harp, Queso, McMillon, Freeman, and Dusek should be able to go today.
Win this one.
