From The Athletic:

Freshman quarterback Arch Manning make his much-anticipated debut in a Texas jersey on Saturday in the Longhorns’ Orange-White spring game and finished 5 of 13 for 30 yards through the air. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Manning, the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2023 and the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, went 1-for-3 in his first series, completing his first pass for 8 yards. He ended the first half 1 for 6 passing.
Manning looked like a freshman. Texas’ defensive line pressured him often, leaving Manning scrambling regularly and having to throw the ball away multiple times. When he did have time to throw, he was decisive when progressing through reads and showed a quick release, but his accuracy proved inconsistent. At times, he was on target; at others, the ball sailed or missed.

He didn’t look rattled at any point and didn’t force any poor, turnover-worthy throws. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has often alluded to Manning’s youth this spring, and it’s clear the early enrollee has a lot of room for growth. Murphy, Texas’ 2022 quarterback signee who split snaps on the Orange team with Manning, looked much more confident and comfortable. — Khan
