Spoke with Andrei Savrasov this past weekend, here is what he had to say:

Please give us a background on yourself and how you would describe your game.

"I was born in Orenburg in the southern part of Russia, but I grew up in Saint-Petersburg. It is a very beautiful and huge city with such cold weather.

I played for 2.5 years in Zenit, a club from Saint-Petersburg. Before Zenit, I played for sport school. In every neighborhood, we have a junior team which is called sport school. My strengths in basketball are penetration and attacking the basket, rebounding, and court vision. I also plan on working very hard to improve my weaknesses."

“How did your relationship with Texas Tech begin and why did you end up choosing Texas Tech?”

Coach Cyprien also came out to visit me in Russia recently. Texas Tech connected with me last summer and I kept in touch with them all summer until August. My first attempt to come to Texas was not a success as I did not pass the TOEFL test. Texas Tech then told me I had an opportunity to come in the spring semester if I improved my test scores. I then worked very hard studying to improve my English and was able to achieve passing test scores. So, I then made the move to Lubbock!

It’s not a secret that I also had offers and interests from other Universities, but I chose Texas Tech because I really like how they treated me. They stayed connected with me more than any other college and gave me the chance to still attend Texas Tech if I improved my test scores. They really believed in me. Texas Tech’s facilities, atmosphere, and coaching staff really amazed me. I have seen how the fans support their team, and I can say with confidence that I have never seen such huge support in real life."
