UMBC made it to the Dance only because they beat Vermont in the finals of the American East Conference tournament by hitting a 3 pointer with one-half second left in the game. Vermont, the regular season champion and defending 2017 tournament champions, had beaten UMBC in 23 straight games. Hail to the Retrievers!
