Even with last night's meltdown, I wanted to wait until this morning to post my thoughts on our program. I was hoping for some late minute surprises. Apparently, no such luck.

So here we go...

First, the fact that we signed so many jucos is (1) an admission that our depth was non existent and (2) Kliff was desperate to win this year. In either case, the scenario wasn't good for a coach going into year 5.

So in this respect, Kliff has failed to build this program.

Regarding this recruiting class that has most everyone so down, I think we did well with O-linemen, linebackers and of course defensive backs. Unfortunately, as so many of you know and have pointed out, it's always what's up front that counts. All of the secondary help in the world isn't going to turn this defense around unless you can put some consistent heat on the opposing QB.

For the life of me, I can't understand why we didn't make this a top priority. Signing the grand total of ONE D-Lineman is ridiculous. This should never happen, especially in our case. It doesn't even appear that we went after more than just a couple. Then on top of that we tell the top defensive lineman we were recruiting NOT to commit when he wanted to? I have never heard of such a thing.

Further, leaving a reported four, five or six scholarships unfilled adds more to the perception that Kliff doesn't know what he's doing.

It pains me to say this but I am afraid that this is the beginning of the end for Kliff. This whole episode just smacks of incompetence. With the schedule coming up as it is, how can Kliff turn this thing around without one Pat Mahomes? The answer is that the odds are he can't.

And if he can't, the inevitable transition to the next staff is just being kicked down the road.
