Saturday update
1p in Ames: Sunny 38 degrees, NW wind 22 gusts to 28mph, wind chill 27. Football weather.
Still looks like it'll be down to freezing for the 4th quarter, wind chill down to mid-lower 20s.
Friday update
For anyone in Ames today it looks like this storm system will pass far enough west/north that it's only a slight chance for rain today. There are a few showers just west of town at 5 a.m. Then it'll gradually clear tonight, low near 25, windy.
Kickoff near 40, mostly sunny, NW wind 15-25mph. That puts the wind chill around 30.
The wind will back off through the game, may edge up to about 41 or 42 for the high. With sunset at 4:49, dry air and a clear sky the temp will fall quickly. Down around freezing by 6:30, lighter wind.
Wednesday morning update
No change to the forecast. There's a chance for rain Friday in Ames, chance for some light rain/snow mix Friday night.
On Saturday it'll be windy and mostly sunny. Kickoff close to 40, high in the lower 40s. Sunset is 4:49, so it should drop back into the upper 30s. NW wind early 20-25mph should relax some through the day.

Still about a week out, but the forecast is already pretty certain that this will be by far the coldest game of the Red Raiders' season.
The part that could change is where exactly a storm system moves. At this point it looks like some snow is possible over the Rockies from Colorado to Canada Thursday spreading into the Dakotas Thu night-early Fri, then into the Great Lakes Fri-early Sat. One computer model has some pretty good snow, another one doesn't have nearly as much. But both solutions keep most of the precip north of Iowa, just a chance for rain Friday. Until then it'll be mostly sunny and near 60 each day there.
At this point game time in Iowa looks like it'll be in the upper 30s/low 40s with a strong NW wind.
