A Center on Spikes Midland Lee Chap football is heading to Ark mountains to fly the Ridge in sailplanes.
These are all member of the Hamilton Soaring Club I have mentioned. The wind comes in and allows all day flying close to mountains. I have done only once but exciting.
80 percent of club is west texas and they are good guys and great pilots. 50 percent of all glider pilots are airline capt or ex military.

Ft Worth Texas mid 60s, a engineer at Convair designed a sailplane I think made of wood. He was Finish and it was named the SISU, only 11 made by hand in Tarrant County. Six still around and and our friends have 3.
It was the WORLD Chap 3 years running.
One is in Marfia and one in National Air Museum in Wash DC.
One was flying in Mafia last year and a wealthy oil man was flying the best new glider. He told the Sisu pilot I could hardly keep up with you !!
The best of these guys are Odessa and Midland guys. Lubbock area would be great soaring is there were interest. Power Pilots transition very fast. In fact when we start to Train we fly a Cessna 150 about 6 times to show the student how it all works. Look Up Hamilton Soaring Club and Soaring Club of Houston. This Red Raider was a co founder of both of these. Houston has 200 folks, Hamilton about 50. We have trained 3 students that went on to professional careers. These become our best friends over time.
