Active Shooter in Alpine: One Student Shot; Shooter Dead

ALPINE -- Marfa Public Radio reports that the shooter is dead from an apparent self-inflicted shot, according to the Brewster County Sheriff's Office.

The Alpine Avalanche reports that one student has been shot, and that a law enforcement officer was shot in friendly fire. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

All schools and administration in Alpine are under critical lockdown after reports of a shooting. Sul Ross State University is also under lockdown at this time.

Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson reports that someone called the sheriff's office and said "Y'all better leave me alone," and made threats against Sul Ross State University.

Alpine Police Department confirms that there is an active shooter at Alpine High School.

Alpine ISD confirms that all schools and administration buildings are in critical lockdown Thursday morning.

According to our newspartner CNN, the Brewster County Sheriff's Office says that one person has been shot and two shooters are believed to be on the loose.

High school students will be released as soon as the all clear is given from the Jehovah's Witness church, according to the Alpine Avalanche.


The Big Bend Regional Medical Center states that no deaths have been reported at this time.
