I would like to tell all of you that I have been diagnosed with Prostate cancer. The reason for me sharing this with you is that I want to urge all of you guys to start getting checked annually by a Urologist, including bloodwork for PSA counts. They say the time to start monitoring this is about when you turn 40. Catching it "early" can indeed save your life.

I fully intend to kick my cancer in the ass. As far as I am concerned, this is nothing more than a nuisance. I am extremely fortunate to live in Houston where we have the #1 cancer hospital in the world, MD Anderson. I have met with my MDA surgeon (who is fantastic) and he agrees that there is no visible evidence (MRI) that the cancer has moved outside my prostate. So I am going to have the robotic surgery to remove the prostate (and the cancer) soon.

After getting three cardiac stents put in me a few years ago after a near fatal heart attack in the "Widow Maker" area, this will be a piece of cake to get through. It was a miracle at the time that I not only survived that episode but that I did not have an actual attack. There was no damage to my heart.

Which brings me to this...I also have all the faith in the world that God is with me, and I have found that THAT is the most important factor in all of this. It's a funny thing that this has been discovered at Easter time. I am at peace with all of this regardless of what happens down the road.

I'll get back with you after the surgery. Meanwhile, please take care of yourselves and lets get another Big 12 Baseball crown!
