@dblt asked me to look at this in the Farrar transfer thread, and so here we are. I think we can break the OL down by five categories:

Starters
Solidly in the top 8
Young Potential
Have been on campus several years, can they provide anything?
Walk Ons

Starters

- JR Dawson Deaton - 717 snaps in 2020, PFF grade 74.8
- SR Josh Burger - 695 snaps in 2020, PFF grade 59.2

I think as of now, these are your only two "locked in" starters for the 2021 season.

Solidly in the top 8

What I mean by the top 8 are these are usually the guys that are going to play. You have your 5 starters, backup swing tackle, backup swing guard and backup center. If you have 8 offensive lineman you feel good about, you're usually going to have a good offensive line.

- SO Weston Wright - 682 snaps in 2020, PFF grade 57.6
- FR Caleb Rogers - 419 snaps in 2020, PFF grade 50.1
- SO Ethan Carde - 395 snaps in 2020, PFF grade 49.3

Young Potential

- FR Matt Keeler - 2021 JUCO signee
- rFR Trevor Roberson - played 1 snap in 2019, opted out 2020
- rFR Landon Peterson - 22 snaps in 2020, PFF grade 61.0
- FR Larry Moore - didn't see the field in 2020
- FR Jack Tucker - 2021 signee
- FR Jacoby Jackson - 2021 signee

Been on campus several years, can they provide anything?

- SO Demarcus Marshall - hasn't seen the field at TTU
- SO Clayton Franks - played 11 snaps in 2019, PFF grade 60.5
- JR Casey Verhulst - played 200 snaps in 2019, PFF grade 60.0. Didn't appear in 2020
- SO Troy Bradshaw - played 9 snaps in 2019, PFF grade of 60.4. Opted out of 2020 season

Walk Ons

- rFR Aaron Castro
- rFR John Stewart
- rFR Reece Azam
- FR Jacob Votaw (PWO commit)
- FR Brett Canis (PWO commit)
- FR Blake Spence (PWO commit)

In addition, the coaches are still looking to add a transfer and they are heavily in the mix for TCU grad transfer T.J. Storment. He was an All-Big 12 selection in 2020 and would be an immediate starter at left tackle. More on Storment HERE

Thoughts

Currently 15 offensive lineman on scholarship, which is probably below the number you want to be at. Will be at 16 by the end of the offseason, whether they land Storment or another transfer.

I think the thought right now is Josh Burger being moved inside to replace Jack Anderson. He would be your starting right guard. Dawson Deaton is locked in at center. Should Storment come, he'd be the left tackle.

That leaves left guard and right tackle up for grabs. I think Caleb Rogers would ideally win either one of those jobs. He played left tackle as a freshman, but his future is in the interior.

Weston Wright has played a lot of snaps but the results haven't been great. Still, he's definitely in the mix to start and definitely in the top 8.

Ethan Carde had a rough season coming over from JUCO but I believe he's still in the mix to compete. Guys like Landon Peterson, Trevor Roberson and any of the freshman could definitely overtake him though. It'd be a great thing for Tech if Peterson, in his 3rd season of college football, would take that next step and seize a starting job.

Don't forget about Casey Verhulst either. He played 200 snaps in 2019 but didn't appear in 2020...I am not sure if there was an injury, COVID or what, but he's a veteran guy who has shown he can play at this level.

A lot has been made about Tech only signing two HS lineman the past two seasons. With the addition of Keeler, who has all of his eligibility, and the NCAA eligibility freeze on this season, Tech has five (5) true freshman offensive lineman on the roster. Not saying those arguments are wrong, but those are the facts.

I am interested in seeing how 2022 recruiting at offensive line goes too. There's only one senior on the roster, and potentially Deaton leaving early for the NFL, plus any attrition. With so many younger guys on the roster already, it seems unlikely the staff will take 4-5+ HS lineman this class, like many have been wanting. It could be another 2-3 with the rest going to junior college and transfers. This is just my opinion on what is likely to happen.

Let me know if you have any questions.
