With the loss of 8 pitchers (Shetter, Quezada, Martin, Harpenau, Gingery, Dusek, Gilbert, Gonzalez) from last year's World Series squad Tech will be looking to find fill the void with both signees from the high school and JC ranks. Even though Tech lost out on highly regarded Jacob Lopez (who signed with the SF Giants) Tech has signed at least six other JC pitchers to come in and compete this Fall. They include:
  1. Garret Cobb (RHP - Sophomore) (6'4" 200) (Cisco JC) http://www.canyonnews.com/canyon-alum-garrett-cobb-follows-juco-path-to-texas-tech/. Pitched in 14 games (all in relief), 28 innings, 33K's, 15 walks, 3-0 record with 4 saves. 4.50 ERA.
  2. Taylor Floyd (RHP - Sophomore) (6'1" 170) (Grayson College). Pitched in 21 games (primarily relief), 32.1 innings, 56 K's, 9 walks, 1-3 record with 9 saves, 2.78 ERA
  3. Aaron Weseman (LHP - Sophomore) (6'5" 195) (Midland JC). Pitched in 15 games (9 starts), 44.2 innings, 40 K's, 38 walks, 4-1 record, 5.24 ERA. Out of high school he originally committed to Dallas Baptist.
  4. Justin Lewis (LHP - Freshman) (6'1" 194) (Midland JC). Pitched in 27 games (primarily relief), 47.1 innings, 63 K's, 25 walks, 4-0 record with 4 saves, 5.51 ERA
  5. Carson Carter (RHP - Freshman-RS) (6'4" 180) (Hill JC). Pitched in 17 games (15 starts), 63.1 innings, 79 K's, 37 walks, 5-4 record, 3.84 ERA.
  6. Ryan Keesee (LHP - Sophomore) (6’3” 170) (Temple JC). Pitched in 17 games (14 starts), 69.2 innings, 80 K’s, 5-5 record with 1 save, 4.52 ERA.
It appears Floyd might be the crown jewel of the bunch. He was all conference and his strike outs to innings pitched is ridiculous. Floyd was listed along with Garret Cobb on the following list put out by Baseball America of JUCO Players to Watch (Doug Facendo a DH/1B signee out of Howard JC was also listed) https://www.baseballamerica.com/sto...-draft-prospects-plus-150-more-names-to-know/. Hard to speculate about what to expect from this group but if Tadlock and his staff think enough of them to sign them you know they will go out and compete. I would be surprised to see all five make the final 35 roster but I would expect at least three of these guys to make the final roster.
