The dead period will end soon and most of the Big 12 has filled and signed their 2018 classes.
Texas leads the way by any metric. No real shock as they are the wealthiest athletic department in our conference and typically top 2 or 3 year in and year out.

Clearly there is Texas, OU and then everyone else. No real change there and if Herman can coach up and continue recruiting to this level, Texas may be back up pretty quickly.
TCU is strongly in 3rd and Gary Patterson has his program running smoothly and strong. This is and was one of the worst things to happen to TTU/us in the Big 12 and in recruiting DFW. Thanks UT.
Oklahoma State has plateaued into a fine perennial Top25 program that can compete for conference championships and good bowl games but I'm not sure that they will ever be able to make the leap to College Playoff. I still believe that our program has a higher ceiling than theirs but would trade spots today in order to be where they are at. That being said, there's not much difference in their class and ours. They're only ranked where they are based in rivals point system that rewards quantity somewhat over quality. They're quality isn't much different than WVU, Baylor or ours.
After a few seasons on the hot seat, Dana seems to have leveled out at WVU.
The only real outlier here is Baylor. The only reason that 1-11, rape-scandal Baylor is ranked where they are at (3.00 avg to our 2.94 avg) is because they have some strongly connected Texas HS coaches selling immediate playing time and the hope to get back to the recent success of 2011-2015: 10, 8, 11, 11, and 10 win seasons and 2 conference championships. They have basically a two year window to do so or Baylor starts to slip backwards into pre-Briles territory.
Meanwhile, we are full on offense, minus a RB in this class (please sign Brumfield) and have 3-4 spots to fill on defense as long as Benson, Scott and Garner still sign.
As bad as we are all feeling about where we've been for the last eight years, we are essentially recruiting the same quality athlete as OK State, WVU and Baylor.
Our win/loss record is unacceptable. We all know it and all agree on it. I personally feel that changes in 2018. The coaching pieces that matter are securely in place for two more years: Kingsbury HC/OC, Brandon Jones OL, David Gibbs DC, and Spav LB. "Dead weight" is cutting loose freeing up the space to get recruiters. It's still the players that make it all go. 2018 will be an 8 or 9 win season. 2019 who knows but I feel really good about it and I bet that Kirby does too. What are your thoughts?
