I was just a youngster then but I do remember the urban unrest, the riots and the war in Viet Nam that was raging. The Democrats had been in charge for some time and law and order was breaking down and LBJ was micro-managing the war and trying to control civilian targets.....the country was just in a mess as it is today after Democratic rule. Dan Henniger in todays Wall Street Journal has a great piece connecting today's problems with what the Democrats did in the 60s. He thinks, as his title, that Law and Order Return is what the country will do.
One would think that the country would learn what happens when democrats are put in power, but as always the pablum they sell returns and then we have to clean up the mess. This time however, the GOP is in the same boat with the Liberals. The power base the 2 parties have in Washington is shared and they do not want that to change.
