The pressure is mounting rapidly on the Big 10 for their decision not to play. Nothing will come of it, but there's a lot of upset people in the Midwest. It's been reported in three hours over 100,000 signatures on the petition on moveon.org.
The stance I take -- and most take -- is there are enough statistics, examples, and medical advice to at least try to open the season. Just try, just give it a shot, just attempt in good faith with every reasonable precaution to have a season.
It could be the three P5s who are playing don't make it out of September and have to close down. So be it. I'll accept the "I-told-you-sos" because at least you knew for sure you couldn't do it when it was 50-50 in early August. And if you get through the season with a few bumps in the road, what a huge statement on discipline, courage, and conviction.
Big 10 teams are still practicing, I believe. It's absurd to then halt at not playing. Feel for a lot of people up there whose leadership lives under a perpetual black cloud of "what-ifs."
