- Today is my birthday. I am 33, and 2008 was ten years ago. Sometimes it feels like yesterday, and other times it truly feels like a decade… While I was at Tech, we would have guys that played for Spike through the 90’s roll through and they seemed ancient. I don’t feel ancient, but realize the current players probably think the same thing about us now. That weirds me out and makes me feel old.
- I’m not sold on McLane Carter and I hope he proves me wrong. This is my opinion and not based on anything other than that: I think Alan Bowman has a lot of upside, but if you start him, Jett probably bails, and your depth takes a hit. Starting McLane right now allows you to put the most experienced person on the field, probably buys you another year to see if Jett develops into his potential, and allows for a very healthy QB battle next year
- Our O-Line should be really good. Between B-Jones, Clay McGuire, and Kevin Johns, I can’t wait to see our running game this fall.
- I’m predicting we run the ball greater than 50% of the time. This might be a stretch, but we have what appears to be a legit OL to go along with a decent stable of backs. Couple this with an inexperienced WR core and an unproven QB, I think we will use the run to take the pressure off our passing game, which will in turn help the defense.
- This is an excellent coaching staff from top to bottom. I hope Coach Kingsbury can figure out the HC role in its entirety. There are so many positives over the past two years that just have not translated to wins. The amount of close games we lose or leads we have blown is a red flag. He must turn that corner and establish a winning mentality within the program. Patterson said it best after their 5-7 season that “losing is a disease” and if it is not taken care of it festers and spreads. I don’t remember his exact quote, but that’s the gist of it. This is true, and I experienced it first-hand at Duke.
- I have been more bearish on this season than any season in the last 10 years. Our schedule is very difficult, we have a lot of questions marks on offense, and we haven’t proven ourselves to be a team that overcomes adversity to win games.
- That said, we are strong at OL and looking that way in the front 7 on defense. Those units can hide A LOT of problems if they play to their expected ability.
- If we can force the same number of turnovers as last year, I will be amazed. It was incredible to watch a defense turn/keep us in a few games and score some points themselves. They weren’t great statistically, and with our schedule, they won’t be this year either. We need to focus on three stats: Points per game (obviously), turnovers, and third down efficiency. If we can excel at the latter two, the first will play itself out.
- Check out how intimidating the Aggies are this season:
- 10 is such a great number, right? The best number. If we win 10 games this year, @J. Strebeck will shave a monkey tail and rock it at NAPE next February. See below for example.
