HOOPS: 2023 Texas Tech target Jaland Lowe has boosted his stock at Peach Jam

“There may not have been a player that boosted their stock more over the past week than Lowe, who delivered game after game on the biggest stage against the top prospects nationally at his position.

Lowe averaged 17.7 points and 4.7 assists per contest over seven games. He accounted for 26 points and four assists against

DJ Wagner, and 19 points and four assists in a matchup with Tre Johnson and
David Castillo. Lowe constantly got paint touch after paint touch and showed off nice, consistent touch around the basket.

Lowe currently holds offers from Oklahoma State, Wichita State, SMU and Texas Tech among others.”

Jamaica: stuck in hurricane Beryl

Well, my crew (16 TOTAL) is in Ocho Rios. Have to evacuate our suite at 10pm. Moving to the convention center. I’m not happy that they are moving us. Don’t think we will get a direct hit. Wind and rain probably. The boats have all been moved. We get to bunk with a few hundred friends till it passes. The storm will hit the south part o the island. We’re on the north side. we’ll all have a “survived a Cat 5 hurricane” stories when we get home.

OT: Your Childhood Home

So, my mother finally sold the old homestead in Brock and is moving to Ft. Worth this weekend. We moved there when I was one, so she's been there over 49 years. I'm weirdly not as sad as I thought I would be, I think because it's been kinda sad out there since my stepdad died nine years or so ago and I'm excited for her to get a fresh start. Plus, not having a few acres to tend to and more neighbors will be good for her.
Anyway, anybody's parents still live in their childhood home?

Hail Damaged New Cars

Was at a dealership today, looking at cars.

Austin had some bad hail yesterday, and some of the cars were fairly beat up from the hail. Meaning, the hood, roof were covered. Sides had a couple of dents.

Windshield was cracked, but they are replacing it.

Now, this was a higher end Mazda CX50, MSRP around $45k normally. I'm not concerned about the money as much, not am I generally concerned about smaller cosmetic issues.

What do you feel would be a reasonable discount from a dealer for a new car that is dented from hail? They offered $5k off, which I mean, is nice and all, just don't know really if it's even worth it from $5k off.

Cat 4 Beryl aiming for Windward Islands

Hurricane Beryl is breaking all norms for early season storms. Hurricanes very rarely form before hitting the Carribbean this early in the year. Only 2 % of all hurricanes since 1851 have formed in June and almost all those formed near the US. Another storm is developing right behind Beryl. Forecasts of warm seas and strong storms this season seem, at least for now, to be accurate.
Beryl is now predicted to be a Cat 4 with 140 sustained winds when it hits the islands early tomorrow morning. It's going to decimate much of the area.

July 4 Dry Dock OT: your top 10 favorite movies

I imagine news will be slow for the next few days. So here’s the assignment: what are your top 10 favorite movies?

I thought this would be easy, but it definitely wasn’t. I had a very hard time narrowing my list to 15. Still not sure if this is my final top 10, but here goes:

The Natural
Gladiator
A Few Good Men
Braveheart
Tombstone
Elf
Interstellar
The Dark Knight
Edge of Tomorrow
Seven

Okay, your turn.

HVAC Question/Advice

Our compressor went out on 6/3. Even though it was installed in 2017, we bought the place in 2018 so our warranty ended last year. We can replace the compressor for $3,400 and get a 1 year warranty or spend $5,400 for a whole new condenser with the standard 10yr warranty.

Thoughts? Would prefer to not spend $5,400. But also don’t want the compressor to go out in 5 years again and be back here

Hernia Advice

Just found out that I have two small hernia's in my lower abdomen. I'll have to get them fixed at some point. Has anyone had surgury's to fix hernia's? If so, I'd be curious to see what the recovery process was? I would like to get them taken care of sooner than later because its super annoying. But I have two camping trips coming up over the next 4 weeks......so I may wait until August.

Just wanted to hear any experience shares?

RECRUITING: 2025 and beyond West Texas recruits to keep an eye on

Took a look at some names in the region worth familiarizing yourself with.

In the process was able to find and learn about some new prospects myself. Probably could do a part 2 if anyone is interested.

Also before anyone wants to argue about what counts as West Texas, I used this very official map I found for how I’d define it in this article.

Dead zone in Gulf.

NOAA is predicting a much larger dead zone in the Gulf this year. Estimate is that it will be about 600 square miles bigger than normal. Could have a big effect on coastal communities' economies, particularly those depending on on shrimp and oysters. At the same time, the latest hurricane forecast from Colorado State says there is a higher number of storms and severity on the Texas Gulf coast. Temps are approaching Aug and Sept levels already. Storms could result in fewer and costlier insurance options. Florida is experiencing those problems now. Coastal communities keeping fingers crossed this summer.

Happy Independence Day

56 men signed a document that changed the world forever. They were aged from 26 to 70 ( Ben Franklin) with most in their 30s yet they knew it would come with great sacrifice.
Signing the Declaration proved to be very costly. Five signers were captured by the British and brutally tortured as traitors. Nine fought in the Revolutionary War and died from wounds or hardships. Two lost their sons in the war, and two others had sons captured. At least a dozen of the 56 had their homes pillaged and burned. Several of these died bankrupt. Some had wives captured , tortured and killed.

Ben Franklin had the ominous line " we must all hang together or we will surely hang separately " that wasn't exaggeration.

An incredible moment in human and world history.
