$15 minimum wage?

Seems like this will be the first terrible idea to be attempted. Thoughts?

If this were to happen, business owners will simply fire whoever they can live without, forcing them to go on the government tit, and then raise prices to limit volume. This will simply end up hurting the consumer, particularly the poor as they won't be able to afford services. Absolutely terrible idea grounded in good intentions.

Something Good I Want to Share

I don't really have another outlet to share this and I figured that it would be appreciated here.

Back in the summer, my son (7) said "Dad I want to go to a real Texas Tech Football game". I said "You got it", looked up the schedule, picked the Colorado game because it was a home game that wouldn't be hot and didn't conflict with anything. Booked the AirBnb and bought the tickets.

He had an amazing time. He loved the Tortillas flying around, he loved the swag surfing at the start of the 4th quarter, he loved yelling in the stands and feeling the shared excitement when Tech did anything good. I explained rules and strategy in real time and he ate it up. He got to eat candy and snacks and jump around, be loud, energetic, etc. It was very, very cool to get to share this thing I enjoy with him and create those memories.

I realize I may have damned my own son to a lifetime of frustrating and often disappointing fandom, but we had a great time regardless. And thats cool.

Also, as we were walking out of the stadium, he turned to me and said "Dad. I know what to do. We just need to get Patrick Mahomes back and Texas Tech will be really good!" Gotta say, I like where his heads at.

2026 West Texas DE

I've talked about Dycin Davis, but I received some more information about his recruitment this morning.

His best friend(s) and current DL teammates are planning on attending Tech next fall. All their stuff is in the process of getting submitted and accepted ASAP.

Dycin has gone of the record if they go to Tech, he wants to go as well. He will want to stay somewhat close because he has a young child and family in the Big Country. Tech was his first D1 offer and is in VERY good position.

Bigger Picture

That game sucked tonight
All are true:
- Refs were real bad
- Kittley, Morton and O Line were real bad
- We are wasting the best skill player group we’ve had in a long time
- We are wasting Tahj the way we wasted Pat
- Deion has a better program in year 2 than we do in year 3, classy or not (Joey’s program could use a little more Compton if we’re honest)
- 7 to 8 wins like clockwork, Joey might have 21 wins in his first 36 games but this program is still no better than your mediocre history
- Having money to spend isn’t gonna fix anything if you’re a .500 program with bad coaching and your head guy is too nice to make real changes. Guys wanna get paid but guys also wanna win.

It gets better though let’s look at things from a macro level in case you guys don’t realize football games are still going on at midnight
- Big 12: If BYU loses (currently on the ropes), and that ISU loss today, it pretty much ensures the Big 12 will only get 1 team into the CFP.
- SEC and Big 10 will have 3 or 4 teams a piece in a 12 team field
That should be just as sobering as anything happening in Lubbock at current when contemplating the future of football

at some point this brave new college football world is gonna snap and shift for good and the Big 10 and SEC have all the ammunition they need to make it happen
embrace the future

TAHJ BREAKS THE RECORD

Travis Hunter Strategy Question

I’m not a coach, but share a message board with some of the best ever here on RRS! Especially on Saturday afternoons. With a 2 way player like Hunter, I sums that the stamina to play 130+ snaps is his biggest challenge. Why would we not send a receiver running long go routes with him on every offensive play. He pretty much shut down Eakin. Would it be productive to alternate fresh receivers to run 40 yard dashes with him every offensive play?

Paternity Leave

Paternity Leave – do you have that benefit at work? Did you take it? If you had it, would you take it?

I start my paternity leave June 3 which runs thru July 8th. We just implemented the Paternity Leave into our corporate benefits, last year. All the old geezers at the office are busting my balls about taking it.. Idk what was the norm back in 1981 when they had kids, but I am not turning down free money/vacation time, that doesn’t impact my PTO totals. Truth be told, they are mad that I wont be here to get shit done and help them out. They’re flustered today, and they’ve known my leave dates for 6 months. I’ve got everything laid out for our account reps to take over my stuff for the time being and have made myself available via text, but will not be logging on unless some shit hits the fan and they need me to put out a fire. I got them set up to coast for a month, but I am sure they will still be bitching.

What about you? Have you taken Paternity Leave/would you if you could/plan on taking it when you have a kid, if it is offered?

My ramblings after leaving the game…

What a frustrating, hair pulling night to sit at Jones AT&T. Just some of my thoughts:

-The script from Kittley was money. Hit underneath drags and crossers, hit some RPO throws, and we were mostly cooking on the first three drives. But after Colorado adjusted, we were laughably bad most of the night on offense.

-The OL was a train wreck today. Total disaster. Couldn’t run the ball against light boxes, missed a ton of blocks, and Colorado abused us in pass pro. The worst they’ve played all year up front, and while CU certainly has the best pass rush we’ve seen all year, something was majorly off with our protections and how we were IDing, Joey said as much after the game. This is problem A1 as to why we lost.

-Behren was A2. He can’t make reads that aren’t an RPO or quick throw right now. Any true drop back passing that’s beyond what was in the script/gameplan, and he’s deer in the headlights. No feel for pressure, no internal clock for when he needs to get the ball out by. The more he has to think, the worse he plays. He also took several really bad sacks that cost us huge yardage and put us way behind the sticks. I hate to say it, but I just don’t know how you fix this with him right now.

-With the playcalling, some things frustrated me, some lack of adjustments that I’d be just be rehashing again, but tonight was more about poor execution by your bad OL and your QB.

-One thing I didn’t understand with the run game was why we didn’t try anything outside the tackles much. Had that great toss play for the TD in the third quarter but where was a change up toss play to JKoby? Where was any outside zone? Where was a speed option? Why not try any of this when we couldn’t run inside? We just kept hammering our heads into a wall running inside.

-Kittley has said that Behren operates his best when we go tempo. Kittley tried to go to some of this late and at times had success with it. Why not go to it sooner if Behren feels better when he can go fast?

-Defensively, a near flawless first half. Second half, I mostly thought the defense was put in binds by the offense. Got pretty good pressure most of the night, but Sanders is a scrambling magician. If it wasn’t him, we probably have a whole bunch of sacks and throwaways and have maybe our overall best defensive performance of the year. Other than CU’s elite skill players making a couple plays in space, we didn’t allow them to hit a big home run pass downfield the whole game. Deruyter is growing this side of the ball, which makes it even more frustrating when we see the offense continue the same song and dance.

The fake punt: I get a fake call there to get some momentum, offense had been bad. But it was more so just the execution and call itself. Pass plays from punters always scare me. Dont hate the idea of a fake, just the wrong call there, IMO.

-It wasn’t the main reason you lost, but the god awful officiating certainly helped Colorado out a lot. The rough call changed the momentum in the game. Colorado’s O-line got away with murder. There were a ton of missed facemasks. That ref crew should all get canned. Atrocious officiating.

-So where do you go from here? With a bye week, I would make a change at QB, put some of these young OL into the starting lineup, and see if I can’t spark this offense. That’s not what I think will happen, but it’s what I would do. We’re wasting a really good group of skill players this year, and it’s killing me.

Republicans...

Have the White House, the majority of state Governors, a conservative Supreme Court, majorities in the Senate and House.

As a fiscal conservative and someone who doesn't mind Christian-friendly policies, if they don't accomplish what they say that they value, they will have no one to blame but themselves.

When are some similar periods in America where one party controlled virtually everything? How did those times work out?

How are you personally feeling about 2025-2028? What do you predict will happen as a result of this election?
