Not all were Christians per se but most were positively influenced and wanted the Christian influence on this country and knew it was imperative for this countries success. Notice what has happened to this country as it has been removed. It is no coincidence.
Separation of Church and State has been so distorted. When we broke from England part of it was that the Church of England controlled the Government like Islam does the society and government of its country. It didn't mean a separation of the positive influence as this link shows.
