We can report that Texas Tech presented Chris Beard with a revised deal earlier this spring. We don't know what the terms are or the current state of those negotiations, but Texas Tech entered this period wanting to play offense. The leadership of the university knows what it has with Beard and did not want to be playing defense if a high-profile job became vacant.
