Joey McGuire made a comment at media days today that the defensive line room is better this year. He said he'd love to have Tyree Wilson back, no question, but overall the room is better. I agree with him. That seems to have really upset people online, especially down in Austin. Let's break it down then.

Sorted by the top snap getters at each spot.

2022

OLB Jesiah Pierre 6'2, 245 - 622 snaps, 60.1 PFF grade
NT Jaylon Hutchings 6'0, 310 - 731 snaps, 84.5 PFF grade
DT Tony Bradford 6'1, 300 - 646 snaps, 71.4 grade
EDGE Tyree Wilson 6'6, 275 - 538 snaps, 75.1 grade

OLB Isaac Smith 6'6, 245 - 151 snaps, 75.0 grade
NT Vidal Scott 6'1, 285 - 234 snaps, 66.3 grade
DT Myles Cole 6'6, 285 - 298 snaps, 59.0 grade
EDGE Joseph Adedire 6'3, 270 - 306 snaps, 55.6 grade

OLB Dimitri Moore 6'3, 235 - 126 snaps, 54.6 grade
NT E'Maurion Banks 6'5, 305 - 31 snaps, 63.3 grade
DT Philip Blidi 6'3, 295 - 217 snaps, 60.5 grade
EDGE Robert Wooten 6'3, 265 - 69 snaps, 55.1 grade

2023 (projection)

OLB Steve Linton 6'5, 235
NT Jaylon Hutchings 6'0, 305
DT Tony Bradford 6'1, 305
EDGE Myles Cole 6'6, 285

OLB Isaac Smith 6'6, 240
NT Quincy Ledet Jr 6'2, 305
DT E'Maurion Banks 6'5, 300
EDGE Joseph Adedire 6'3, 280

OLB Bryce Ramirez 6'2, 250
NT Trevon McAlpine 6'3, 305
DT Blake Burris 6'5, 310
EDGE Dylan Spencer 6'5, 245

- 2023 has a 1 year older/stronger/more experienced Jaylon Hutchings, Tony Bradford, Myles Cole, Isaac Smith, Dooda Banks, Joseph Adedire
- Steve Linton and Quincy Ledet Jr as veteran transfer additions. We've all heard the Linton chatter this off-season, they expect him to be a potential early round NFL Draft pick.
- Bryce Ramirez returning from injury, Joey seemed very optimistic about him today
- Guys like McAlpine and Burris should see snaps after rarely/not playing in 2022
- Didn't even get to list guys like Robert Wooten, Harvey Dyson, Charles Esters, Terrell Tilmon, Sam Carrell on the 3 deep who could all make an impact. This front 4 is DEEP.
- You signed a group of the most talented true freshman probably in school history that are not listed: Isaiah Crawford, Tre'Darius Brown, Jayden Cofield, Ansel Nedore, Braylon Rigsby, Amier Washington

Do not discount what it means for these guys going into year 2 in Tim DeRuyter's defense could do either. You play a lot faster when you don't have to think and can just go.

Just don't tell Texas fans.
