Super Quick Thoughts on Tech vs. Butler Last Night (It's me, I'm the problem it's me)

I'm doing a lot of baking today for first Christmas out of state tomorrow, so I don't have much time until after Sunday. I'm baking cherry pie, cinnamon rolls, yeast rolls, and cream puffs today (not in that order). I've already been in the kitchen four hours today.

First and foremost, Mary and I were pleased to meet @radaraider at the game last night! Not a lot of Raiders in Hinkle but there were a few and we made some noise. Hope to cross paths with @radaraider and Mrs. Radaraider again.

The last three road games that Mary and I have attended have been losses. It's my fault. Tech lost the game we attended at Stoolwater a few years ago, but Mary did clean up at the casino to the tune of $1400. Raiders lost in OT to DePaul a couple years ago, in that game I got a ferocious toothache and ended up with a root canal two days later. Let me tell you the drive from Chicago to Indianapolis was 100% misery. And then last night, another OT and another loss with Mary and I attending.

So, my apologies. It won't stop me from attending future games, though.

Butler is tough and that crowd last night was raucous. Butler crashes the boards, they body you up everywhere - it's the kind of defense I like to see, but I hate to see it be effective against Texas Tech.

I will say this though, not very many teams would have hung in there like the Raiders did. Most teams don't fight like that. There aren't 30 teams in the county that fight like that, you can take that to the bank. A+ on effort and not quitting.

Screen for them I thought was a huge lift. I said in another thread I would love to have him on the Tech roster. He's not really athletic, he's kind of knock kneed and kind of a dork (I called him Poindexter in yet another thread), but man the first thing he does on any shot is put his butt on you. He bodies you up and gets position and he's already 7 feet tall - I love it. I don't really look with envy at too many players, but man I would love that dude on the Raiders.

Their guards are bullies and they bend you to their will, I love that too. Lots to be admired about that Butler squad. I already root for them most of the time, last night I was not, but I will be most of the time. Disclaimer, my son is a Butler grad so I am biased but that doesn't make me wrong about what I saw last night.

Despite giving up 9,000 points last night I felt like Texas Tech is playing better now than they were a few games ago. I remain optimistic that they can get some more good wins this season and maybe get to some postseason. I really don't know if the NCAA tourney is in the cards but it could be. Raiders are under-personneled at the post and that's not a good recipe in Big 12 play but Tech has good guards and that's really important everywhere.
