For the third time in five years, the Texas Tech football program is entering its offseason surrounded by uncertainty about its future. No one involved is satisfied or happy with the Red Raiders' record over the last two seasons and there are efforts underway by internal and external stakeholders to force change(s) inside the program, but these efforts are not necessarily aligned in their scope.

The situation is fluid. Things are happening but nothing has been decided. The possibility exists that there could be minimal staff changes, a high-profile staff departure or even something more dramatic than that. This may take some time for everything to play out.

Few things to keep in your mind over the next few days...

... Kirby Hocutt's weekly radio show is set to air at Noon on Wednesday.

... The Early Signing Period for football starts a week from this Wednesday.

... No matter where you look, there aren't many athletic departments across the country that are flush with cash right now. Texas Tech is no different there. The university's coaches - Matt Wells, Tim Tadlock, Chris Beard, Wes Kittley, etc. - have all accepted voluntary salary reductions. The athletic department has had staff reductions. That's all real. The university is scheduled to cut Kliff Kingsbury a check for $2.05 million by Jan. 5 as part of his contract buyout. Matt Wells' buyout is 70 percent of the remainder of his contract, which at this point right now would be around $9.1 million. That would be paid out in monthly installments and includes offset language.
