MVPs

In the CCL Showcase they hand out three MVP awards, one for the best offensive player, one for the best pitcher and one for the best defensive player.

Defensively, North center fielder Damian Bravo was given the best glove award. He actually had what looked like a dashing diving catch in left-center early in the game but the ball was ruled a trap. Bravo also had an RBI single and stole a base in the game. Bravo hit just .133 in 30 at-bats for Texas Tech this past spring but looks to make a jump this offseason a he has hit .356 at the dish for the Healdsburg Prune Packers.

OTHER STANDOUTS OF THE GAME
Here are the best of what I (Eric Sorensen) saw at the Cal Collegiate League Showcase Game at the Urban Youth Academy in Compton.

ZANE PETTY, RHP, Santa Barbara Foresters.
This guy was electric. That’s the only word to describe him. He came into the game in the eighth inning and was pumping 94-95 to the dish, while also showcasing a biting 12-to-6 curveball. He only faced two batters on the night but easily blew both of them away on upper-zone 94 mph heat. Petty just completed his freshman year at Texas Tech where he made 11 starts in the midweek and posted 3-2, 5.68 numbers with 32 Ks in 38 innings of work. Oh, and he was also a 13th round draft pick of the Brewers coming out of Corsicana High School in Texas. I think we’re going to see a whole bunch of this dude in the next two years.
