I understand Slaton was to be awarded Texas Tech but turned it down.

During WW 2 Lubbock was only about 35,ooo, with 2 air bases.

It was Amon Carter that really pushed Tech. He was first Board Chairman.

He gave the Soapsuds to Tech with his best friend on it. It is said and disputed he hated Texas AM and had the engineers point the butt of the Horse at Tex AM.

My son told me Tech was number one in Conference in recruiting recently .
